J. Ericson webpohtoJoanie Ericson, of Ogilvie, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014 at the FirstLight Health System in Mora.  She was 66 years old.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Lewis Lake Covenant Church in rural Ogilvie with Rev. Bob DeYoung officiating.

MEMORIAL VISTATION will be held from 5-7 pm on Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Joanie Marie Ericson, of Ogilvie Minnesota, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014 with her family by her side. She was 66 years old.

Joanie was born April 8, 1947 in Mora Minnesota at the Kanabec County Hospital. She grew up on the family farm and was the first of four siblings. She attended Ogilvie High School and graduated in 1965. In 1969 she met Vance and they married on July 22, 1972. Before settling down and starting a family in Ogilvie, Joanie and Vance enjoyed traveling and even lived in Colorado for a short time to enjoy the mountains.

Joanie truly enjoyed working at Dandelion Floral. She made numerous lasting friends and knew every customer by name. Joanie greeted everyone with her beautiful smile and an unforgettable and exaggerated “Hiii!!”
She enjoyed playing cards, spending time with family and friends, talking on the phone and taking care of her family. Joanie would do anything she could to give a helping hand. She was kind and giving in so many ways to so many people. She will be truly missed by everyone.

She is preceded in death by her mother Gertrude tenCate & father Hendrik tenCate.
She is survived by her husband, Vance Ericson; children Kimmie (Matt) Pitz, Brian Ericson; grandchildren, Kaylee, Devin, & Skyler; sisters, Marie (Bob) Kastenbauer & Faye Cayton; brother Rick (Patty) tenCate; plus many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Memorial service was held on Saturday, April 5th at Lewis Lake Covenant Church in rural Ogilvie with Rev. Bob DeYoung officiating.  Music was provided by Phyllis Kruell; and Phillip and Emily Carlson. Arrangements were handled by Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.

  2. My aunt Joanie was a wonderful lady & Wil be missed dearly. She has been battling cancer for a long time & I am glad she is finally at peace & with the lord. I am grateful that I got to spend Christmas with her visiting & catching up & her telling me that she has been feeling good after stopping treatments…I will always treasure that conversation knowing she was in a good place at that time being with family :-) Joanie u will always be remembered & missed by all & we all will always love u!

  6. So sorry to hear of Joanie’s death. We had lost touch in recent years, but had many wonderful memories from high school. She was a wonderful person. My condolences to all her family.

  7. We both attended school with Joanie…all twelve years. We are fortunate to have been able to visit her while in the hospital last week. She was smiling and held my hand….now she is holding the Lords hand and is at Peace!! Thoughts are with her family.

  10. Joanie was engaged to my brother Vern before he left for Vietnam. He was killed there so they never married. I thank God she met Vance. He was so much like my brother. I know they loved each other dearly. She was loved like a sister and will be missed. Padiddle! Private joke.

  13. I am so sorry for your loss ~~ I was friends since I was a little girl. My Dad Cy Werkhoven and her Dad Hank Ten Cate were childhood friends they went to school together and stayed friends all there lifes. I had many great times with Joanie and her family we will all miss her. Until we meet again.

She taught me how to be strong and encouraged me to face my fears, as she’s had to do over the years. I will never forget her and her kind and loving presence. She was a true friend and she will always be in my heart. My condolences to everyone in her family. Rest in Peace, Joanie.

  16. Vance, Brian, Kimmie and family~ I am so sorry for your loss of such an amazing person! I have so many great memories with her. I will never forget the weekends we spent at Hilltop or all the weekends I spent at your house. She will be greatly missed!
