Donna Raye Jones, of Mora, Minnesota, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 4th, 2014 at Eastwood Senior Living in Mora. Donna spent her last two and a half years as a resident of Eastwood as she suffered from dementia, and early Alzheimer’s disease. She was 71 years old.
Donna was born September 29th, 1942 at her home in Braham, Minnesota to Elton and Helen (Peterson) Sjodin. She grew up with a large family, and had seven brothers and one sister. She was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ogilvie, Minnesota, and graduated from Ogilvie High School in 1960. After high school she worked on an assembly line at the Plastics Factory (AMOCO) in Mora. She met her husband, Dale Jones Jr. through his friendship with her brothers, and they spent their early years together dancing and going roller-skating at Fish Lake. They were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ogilvie on October 18th, 1963 and soon after moved to Arlington, Virginia while Dale was in the service. Here their only son, Curtis Wayne was born on December 18th, 1964. Upon returning to Minnesota in 1966, the family moved to Anoka, Minnesota, where Donna worked on an assembly line for computer parts at Univac until 1970 when the family moved back to Mora, Minnesota, where Dale had built the family their new home. Donna went back to work on the assembly lines at her old company in Mora, which was now called Shellar Globe. In 1975, Dale bought his trucking company, and Donna became his book keeper and worked from home, and she became a full time homemaker when Dale sold his company in 1982.
Donna was an avid bowler and has earned many accomplishments in doing so. She won the Pine City Queen tournament two years in a row, placed in the top 10 at the Peterson Classic Tournament in Chicago, and added many other trophies from bowling league achievements. She also loved music and you could always catch her dancing whenever she heard a tune. She loved to entertain, and the couple enjoyed throwing Halloween parties and having family over for Holidays. You could always catch her shopping at garage sales throughout Mora and Ogilvie if she wasn’t holding one of her own, and spent a lot of time outside in the garden with her flowers. When her grandchildren were born she wasted no time spoiling them like Grandmas do, and never missed a school program, birthday, or T-ball game. Donna was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She will truly be missed by all who were blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Elton and Helen (Peterson) Sjodin
