Ellen Francis Evenson, of Braham, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Eastwood Senior Living in Mora.  She was 86 years old.

Ellen was born on November 1, 1927 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Roy and Jennie “Eva” (Stephens) Hult.  Ellen spent her childhood in Nevis, where her parents owned a resort.  In 1944 the family moved to Braham and Ellen attended Braham High School.  For a few of years, Ellen worked for Egg Produce in Braham where she would candle eggs.

On November 9, 1946 Ellen was united in marriage to Kenneth Evenson at the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church.  In 1950, Ellen and Kenny were blessed with a son, Kenneth “Butch” Evenson.  After she was married, Ellen worked at the Braham Hospital as a nurse’s aide.  She then worked for Dahlman Manufacturing for a number of years, before retiring in early 1980’s.  She and Kenny enjoyed retirement. In 1986 they escaped the cold winter by going to Florida; and then spent the next 6 winters there, making many friends.  Ellen enjoyed traveling; taking trips with Kenny to the east coast and Canada. She also enjoyed many trips to the family cabin on Lake Mille Lacs where she could relax and fish.

Ellen loved to collect and refinish antiques.  She was always on the lookout for a forgotten treasure she could restore.  She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.  She was an active member of the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church, helping with various church events for many years. Most of all, Ellen loved her family and she will be dearly missed by her loving husband and son.

Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, and sister Betty Jean Nolby.

Ellen is survived by her husband of 67 years, Kenny; son Butch; grandchildren Melissa and Joshua; great grandson Caleb; nieces, Cheri (Dudley) Johnson; Robyn (Robert) Mahlberg; Bonnie (Patrick) Perro; Jennie (Roman “Buddy”) Kruzel; Jody (Kerry) Schoer; and Bobbi (Joel) Varichak; sisters-in-law, Joyce Johnson, Phyllis Ledin, and Delores (Lenny) Glasser; brother-in-law Rollie (Erline) Evenson; many other relatives and friends.

Ellen was a lovely lady! We enjoyed having her for a neighbor for the past several years! I remember when we lived across the road and the girls loved to go for a visit over to see Ellen & Kenny. One day especially was a snow day. The drifts got so steep I had to lay my body down in front of Keri so she could be able to get home. Funny how such a short distance seems so long when the journey seems impassable.
Kenny, remember going to the halloween spook house with the girls? Remember when Steve choked on the chicken at Brass Rail? How about the Carmel Rolls we had at Freddies or the trips to the DQ? We all loved to hear Ellen giggle!!
She is fondly remembered by all who knew her! Our lives were made richer and better for knowing her! Our prayers are with you as you grieve the loss of your beloved wife and mother!
