Debee was born on May 10th, 1953 to Robert and Charlotte Stanius.  Debee grew up in Isanti County on the family farm near Long Lake with her sister, Cheryl.   Debee attended Long Lake Country School and went on to graduate from Cambridge High School in 1971.  She loved the arts, flowers and photography; her first job was at Elaine’s Flowers in Isanti.  On July 20th, 1974 she married Chuck McGovern at Long Lake Lutheran Church.  Chuck was a classmate and they lived on Lake Francis in Isanti County.  The following year she purchased the Mora Flower and Gift Shop.  They moved to Mora to raise their three boys; Andrew, 31, Rob, 28, and Clint, 27. After selling the flower shop years later, she helped to run the family business and worked part-time at Oak Gallery.  Between working and raising the boys she was very active at Grace Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, serving on the Church Council, and many other church committees.

Debee loved to volunteer for the community.  She was very active with the Mora Vasaloppet – skiing the race for many years with her boys and serving as a Kransculla.   Debee also skied the Vasaloppet in Sweden and Japan.  She believed in and supported the Mora Schools by serving on the School Board and the Mora Education Foundation and by her involvement in a variety of school functions.   The family has many memories of trips to Mexico, Hawaii, Florida, Lake of the Woods, and the family lake cabin.  Debee also loved to travel with her girlfriends.  Debee loved any and all things that involved her family or her friends and was always ready to help.  Debee was very much loved by her husband and sons and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Debee is preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Stanius.   She is survived by her husband, Chuck of Mora, MN; son Drew (Allison) of St. Louis, MO, son Rob and grandchildren Noah and Nevaeh of Cambridge, MN, son Clint (Monica) of Isanti, MN; her father, Robert Stanius of Isanti, MN, sister Cheryl (Dave) Deiman and nephews David and Will of Minneapolis, MN, sister-in-law Nan (Harvey) Hendrix of Talladega; AL and nieces and nephew, Hillary, Zane and Caitlin; and many other relatives and dear friends.

  11. I will always remember one time when Clint and Katie were invited to a birthday party of a child where neither of us knew the child. Debee and I talked it over a few times and decided that it was not fair to the child having the birthday for our kids not to attend because of our insecurities. So, I brought the kids and took the first hour of sitting in my vehicle on the road and Debee came and took the second hour sitting in her vehicle on the road and then brought the kids home. Drew, Robbie and Clint – this story is just a small testament of the love your mother had for you boys and what she wouldn’t do just to make sure you were safe. Wrap your hearts around those memories and carry them with you as there will be many times you will need them to help you through your grief.

  12. Dear Chuck, boys and your families,
I (Marianne) remember as far back as the Mora Flower and Gift Shop days, as well as when we all attended Church together. When you boys were so little, she had you at the Flower Shop with her, and though the place was filled with beautiful breakables, you boys were so good, and yet so carefree. She would just look at you boys and smile. She was so in love with her babies…and it showed through-out every stage of your lives, into having your own babies, and then falling in love with them! She was a woman of beauty, as well as creating beauty. Through losing a parent and friend, there will always be an empty space at family gatherings and the table. But I can honestly tell you, that with enough time, and it does take time, the complete sadness that you feel right now will ease and that there will come a day when you will be able to share your memories with less tears and more smiles. Our prayers of strength and comfort go out to you all, as you allow the love of Christ, family, and friends, to be a source of your comfort!!!

  26. Debee gave me a job in the Flower Shop as a young teen. We were Debee, Ruthee, and Loree. We lost Ruthee years back, and now are so saddened by the loss of the most kind, energetic, cheerful, and compassionate person we have had the privilege to know. We were amazed that this amazing adult would want to befriend us, and it made us so proud and want to emulate her character! We would all be improved if we picked up even a fraction of her goodness. Debee was very special and certainly will be missed by so many. Thoughts and prayers are with Chuck and family.
