R. Southwick webphotoRon “Bill” Southwick, of rural Mora, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2013 at his home.  He was 72 years old.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Eugene Plaisted  officiating.

MEMORIAL VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ronald “Bill” William Southwick, of Mora, left us on Friday, July 12, 2013 while surrounded by his family at his home.  He was 72 years old.

Ron, loving known by some as Bill, was born on September 3, 1940 in Mankato, Minnesota to parents Frank and Gertrude (Wilson) Southwick.    Ron was united in marriage to Darlene Lohberger on August 3, 1963 in Mapleton, Minnesota.  Together the couple lived around Pemberton for a few months before moving to Mora, Minnesota in 1964 to raise their family. 

Ron worked at Birds-Eye foods in Waseca before moving to Mora where he worked for Glen’s Tire for seven years before starting as a welder at Schlagel Inc. in Cambridge.  Ron worked for the next 42 ½ before retiring in 2010 at the age of 70.

Ron enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, and taking trips with his friend Lyle Opheim.  He will be missed by his family and friends.

Ron is preceded in death by his father, mother, and step-father Archie “Butch” Leppanen.

He is survived by his wife Darlene; daughters Ronda (Brad) Lundberg, and Roxan Southwick; son Ronald “Joe” Southwick all from Mora; grandchildren Jesse Southwick, Sarah Thomas, Mitchell McGrew, and Derek Lundberg; brothers  Don (Anita) Southwick of Waterville, and Jim (Fran) Southwick of Pine City; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mora.  A memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Music will be provided by Kris Paulson and the St. Mary’s Choir.

    My sincere sympathies to all of you on the loss of Ron. He was a wonderful man that I was proud to have known all my life. I have many good memories of him. He will be missed by all that had the chance to know him. May he Rest in Peace.

  4. I am so sorry to see of Ron’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you Darlene and family. I miss the times we were able to get together at your place on Quamba Lake or at Marians. Ron was a very likable person and was ready to help anyone in need. Again my sympathy and prayers go out to you all.
