Melba Kaale swebphotoMelba Kaale, of Onamia, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Mille Lacs Nursing Home in Onamia.  She was 97 years old.

FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday May 4, 2013 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora.

VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

INTERMENT will be at Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Isle.

Melba Leone Kaale, of Onamia, formerly of Isle, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Mille Lacs Nursing Home in Onamia.  She was 97 years old.

Melba was born January 11, 1916 to Carl and Ella (Hoyt) Nerem in Cottonwoood County, Minnesota.  She was the second oldest of nine children.  She started school in Carrington, ND; then went to Pelican Rapids, MN and eventually returned to Cottonwood County where she finished the 8th grade. 

On March 8, 1936 she married John “Ross” Kaale at Lamberton, MN.  To this union three children were born; David, Audrey and Bryan.  They lived at various places in southern Minnesota before moving to Isle, MN.  She was a homemaker all of her adult life; always having a big garden and canning the produce from it.  She loved reading, crocheting and visiting with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ross; siblings Kermit, Carl, Russell, Donald and Nonie.

She is survived by her children David (Barbara) Kaale of Joliet, IL, Audrey (Roy) Brasch of Mora, and Bryan Kaale of Westbrook; 5 grandchildren Bud (Beth) Brasch IV, Tamara (Rod) Johnson, Laurie Pray, Jim Kaale and Christine Kaale; 5 great grandchildren Jeremiah Johnson, Becky Johnson, Caroline Brasch, Tanner Pray and Kaylen Pray; sisters Lois Larson of Westbrook and Frances (Jim) Jaffe of La Mesa CA; brother Raymond F. (Arlene) Nerem of Lamberton, MN; plus many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora with Rev. Clyde Dalbey officiating. Music was provided by Rodney Johnson and Becky Johnson.  Honorary casket bearers were Melba’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Interment was at Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Isle.   Arrangements by the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.   Condolences may be posted at www.aifuneralhome.com

  1. David, Audrey, Bryan and Families:-

    I am so sorry to hear of Melba’s passing. I remember MANY good times and good laughs when our families got together.

    The two things I will always remember about Melba are:-Her telling how she had to rock those crying “twins” when she was only 10 years old! And the other was her wonderful chocolate cake. Not only did it taste good, but the frosting came off in one BIG piece and that was saved for the end! What a treat!

    I am sorry that Harry and I can not make the funeral, but the company Harry works for has a “mandatory” moving day. They are moving from one building to another. I would have loved to have seen you all again! I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
