Phyllis was born December 2, 1919 at home in Braham, MN to Fred and Elmora Larson (Johnson). The oldest of four siblings, Phyllis grew up on the family farm and graduated from Braham High School in 1937.

After high school, Phyllis went to work in St. Paul but returned home on weekends where she met and fell in love with Leonard Stromberg. In 1946, Phyllis and Leonard were blessed with a daughter, Joanne.

Phyllis was very active in church activities and enjoyed gardening, fishing and card playing. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family. Her large extended family, including an enormous number of nieces and nephews, spent much time at the farm each summer under the watchful eyes of Phyllis and Leonard, often helping out with the chores.
