Dorothy Jensen, of Mora, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the FirstLight Health System in Mora.  She was 89 years old.   Dorothy was born on January 1. 1924 on a farm by Spring Brook Hill in Arthur Township to John L. and Edith (Allman) Erickson.  She spent her childhood in a four generation household consisting of great-grandpa Erick Mattson, grandparents Martin and Ena Erickson, parents John and Edith Erickson; and later two sisters Irene and Lorraine.

She attended School District 41 through the eighth grade, went to Mora High School and graduated in 1941.  She then attended Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis until January 1942, when she came back to Mora to take a job as Deputy County Treasurer for Basil Irwin.  When Irwin left in 1945 Margaret Bronniche was appointed County Treasurer, and Dorothy worked for her until Chas. T. Peterson was elected Treasurer.  She worked as Deputy Treasurer until December 31, 1948.  In 1945 she and Alvin Jensen were married on March 24.  Their first born daughter Janice was born on June 19, 1949.  They became the parents of three more daughters; Barbara, Beverly and Kathy.  Dorothy was a stay-at-home mom until her children were in school.  From then on she worked at Nelson Variety, NW LP Gas, Boatel and State Farm Ins. at various times in her life.

Alvin and Dorothy’s first farm was 40 acres, plus 80 acres that they rented near Alvin’s dad’s place at Fish Lake.  Two years later after Dorothy’s dad passed away they bought Dorothy’s home place; an 80 acre farm in Arthur Township, plus 20 acres in Comfort township, which they farmed for 47 years.

Dorothy loved to cook.  She often entertained family and relatives at Holiday and Birthday dinners.  She liked to enter recipe contests and won a few prizes.  She also loved reading and traveling.  She and her husband traveled to many states in the U.S. and also Mexico and Canada.  In 1982 they made a trip to the Scandinavian countries where they visited the birthplace of Dorothy’s ancestors in Venjan near Mora, Sweden.  In 1995 she traveled to England to visit her brother John who was teaching there for a year.  In 1994 Alvin and Dorothy sold their farm and moved to Milaca until 2000 when they returned to Mora and moved to the Dala Apartments.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Alvin; 4 daughters Janice Jensen, Barbara Jensen, Beverly (Douglas) Gustafson and Kathy Jensen; two grandchildren Brandt Gustafson and Jenna Gustafson; a great-grandson Ethan; one brother John Erickson; sisters Irene Johnson and Lorraine Erickson; nephew Randy Johnson; niece Julie Johnson; other relatives and friends.

Sorry to hear of Dorothy’s passing. I fondly recall our visit with Aunt Lorraine and my sisters from Dalbo, Cambridge and elsewhere to her on the farm in Mora. My Great Gandfather was Martin’s brother Eric and Great-Great Grandfather Eric Mattson. Have also enjoyed a visit to Venjan in 2001. Take Care to all in the family.
