Gladys E. Rock, of Braham, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Elmhurst Commons. She was 99 years old.

FUNERAL will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Rich Chronis officiating.

VISITATION will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Rock-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Braham and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

INTERMENT will be at Rice Lake Cemetery in Braham.

Gladys Eldora Rock of Braham, Minnesota passed away on December 17, 2012 at her home in Elmhurst Commons in Braham.  She was 99 years old.

Gladys was born on April 29, 1913 in Waseca County, Minnesota to Axel and Hulda Peterson.  She was baptized and confirmed in Waseca.  After her family’s move to Wisconsin, she graduated from River Falls, Wisconsin high school in 1931.  Gladys attended and graduated from River Falls State Teachers college with a degree in Elementary Education. 

Her first teaching job brought her to Braham to teach first grade.  While teaching in Braham, she met and eventually married John Wallace Rock.  They were married on June 25, 1938 in River Falls, Wisconsin.  While living in Braham, they adopted two children, John and Kathleen.  Gladys was a wonderful housewife, and mother.  She would often assist Wallace with his funeral home duties.

Gladys loved being at their cabin on Mille Lacs and taking family vacations.  She loved her church activities and also many civic activities.

Gladys loved her friends and neighbors, especially the years she spent living at Elmhurst Commons.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wally; one brother Raymond Peterson; three sisters, Ruth Peterson, Pearl Bathke, and Esther Helmer; and daughter Kathleen Johnson.

Gladys is survived by her son John Rock and significant other Lori Proechel of Chanhassen, grandchildren Corin Donahue of Vorhees, NJ, Geoffrey Johnson and Jessica Johnson of Philadelphia, PA, and Jon Matthew Rock of Tallahassee, FL and his Mother, Kathy Rock of Minnetonka, MN, and many nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by many friends and neighbors.

    Your Mom and Grandma was a beautiful woman. I am sure she was met by Kathy and all of our card playing Mom’s. I cannot be at the funeral but know that my thoughts and love are with all of you.

  6. To Pete’s family no matter when your mom/ grandma dies it is still very sad for those she left behind. I am so sorry for your loss but acutely aware of how much our community gained from Pete.
