Bernelda Schwankl, of White Bear Lake, formerly of Mora, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at United Hospital in St. Paul. She was 81 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Living Hope Assembly of God Church in Mora with Rev. Gary Shaw officiating.
VISITATION will be held from 5-8 pm on Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
INTERMENT will be in the Oakwood Cemetery of Mora.
Bernelda “Nellie” Bernice Schwankl died at United Hospital in St. Paul on the evening of November 29, 2012. Nellie was 81 years old at time of death.
Nellie was born December 12, 1930. She was raised on the family farm in LeSueur, Minnesota. Nellie enjoyed being with her brothers and sisters. She loved animals and enjoyed being with her horses on the farm.
Nellie was united in marriage with Edward Louis Schwankl in Watertown, SD. Together they raised five children. During Nellie’s life she lived in Le Sueur, Minneapolis, Circle Pines, Lino Lakes, Crystal, Mora, and White Bear Lake, MN. She worked at Honeywell for 16 years, but spent most of her adult life as a stay at home mother and housewife.
During Nellie’s life she attended several churches. She was an active member of the church participating in women’s fellowship, prayer warriors, teaching multiple classes/courses at the church and attending weekly services.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Hulda Ziemer; brothers, Wesley, Arnold, and DeWayne; sister, La Verna; husband, Edward; and daughter, Ricki Joy Colestock.
Nellie is survived by her sister, Marcella McDonald; brother, LeRoy (Linda) Ziemer of Clear Lake, IA; son, Curt (Debbie) Ziemer of Shell Lake, WI; daughter, Pamela (Wayne) Piemeisl of Maplewood, MN; son, Steve (Marj) Schwichtenberg of Mapleton, MN; son, Scott (Karry) Schwankl of Elk River, MN; daughter, Melodie (Brian) Bombeck of Crystal, MN; 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Nellie was a wonderful woman to all her family and friends; she was a joy to the hearts and lives to all she came in contact with. Nellie’s words and actions were a ministry of God to all around her. She was a beautiful sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. We will miss the smiles and laughter that she brought to our hearts. A Funeral service was held Tuesday, December 4th at Living Hope Assembly of God church in Mora with Pastor Gary Shaw officiating. Pallbearers were Nellie’s grandchildren. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora, MN.
