I spent many happy days at “Camp on the Mississippi” playing and working with the Hellerstedt kids. Geri was the “Mom” I was missing in my life at that time. She treated me as if I were a member of the family, She fed me, consoled me, taught me and, when necessary, scolded me.

I’m still embarrassed when I think about the time by the pool when she asked me how old I thought she was. I was 14 and I think I said that she was about 50. She was, of course, only 36 and she never let me forget that day.

Though I had not seen her since then, I’ve always fondly remembered her loving, caring and yet stalwart demeanor. She put up with a lot during those years at Camp on the Mississippi But she alway gave back with her loving heart and generous soul. She is missed and I will always remember her as my “Mom.”
