SHIRLEY M. ERICKSON

Shirley Erickson, of Mora, died on Friday, August 17, 2012 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. She was 86 years old.

FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Dean Oelfke officiating.

VISITATION will be on Monday, August 20, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

INTERMENT will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.

Shirley M. Erickson, of Mora, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2012 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. She was 86 years old.

Shirley was born on March 24, 1926 at home in Whited Township, Kanabec County, to Richard and Lydia (Hansen) Hinde. She grew up on the family farm, the younger of two children. Shirley attended Sunday School at Quamba Baptist Church and later became a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She attended elementary school in Quamba and graduated as Valedictorian from Mora High School in 1944.

After high school, Shirley worked as a secretary for the Kanabec County Co-op Creamery. Later, she worked in Minneapolis until she married Bill Erickson in 1945. To this union, one daughter, Eileen, was born. In 1949, Shirley was appointed as Kanabec County Deputy Treasurer, replacing Charles Peterson. In 1952, she was appointed County Treasurer and continued in this position until retiring in 1970.

Shirley loved the farm and worked side by side with her husband, Bill. She loved horses and accompanied her daughter, Eileen, to numerous horse shows throughout the state. They also went to the World Champion shows in Oklahoma. She was an animal lover, caring for many cats over the years, as well as her German Shepherd dogs. She kept a beautiful lawn spending many hours on her lawnmower tending her vegetable garden and lovely flowers.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; brother, Monte Hinde; brother-in-law, Ray Erickson; sister-in-law, Alta Erickson; nephew, Dennis Erickson.

She is survived by her daughter, Eileen Oman; sister-in-law, Eunice Hinde; nieces, Joy Erickson, Barb (Ray) Hedberg, Janet (Arlan) Stromberg; several great-nieces and great-nephews; other loving relatives and friends.
