She was born on February 12, 1953 in Brainerd, MN, the daughter of Allie and Mildred Austin.  She was a 1971 graduate of Mora High School.  She worked at many jobs throughout her life but found the most rewarding was being a caregiver to others.

Gloria was known for her sense of humor, right up to her time of death, in spite of her many illnesses.  She loved purses, shoes, rings, and beautiful things.  Everything had to match right down to the nitty gritty.  She was a Twins and Vikings fan!!

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Nancy and Elroy, and brother-in-law Hal.

She is survived by her wonderful husband Edward Nickel; four loving children: Jason (Vicki) Knowler, Travis (Kathy) Knowler, Ryan Knowler, Kristy (Joe) Westrom and Todd (Tiffany) Nickel; 9 grandchildren whom she loved very much: Kati, Brock, Jacob, Kaylynn, Alexis, Jonathan, Sabrina, Sydney, Logan, Zach, and Lucas.  Gloria also had a very special place in her heart for her foster daughter, Patty Kokesh. Surviving siblings are Allen (Rosa) Austin, Elvin (Joy) Austin, Sharon (Russell) Johnson, Sherre (David) Gardner, and Charleen Forney (fiancé Dennis).  Gloria was also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, her coffee club and many friends.

Services were held on Monday, August 6th at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Linda Fouts officiating.  Music was provided by Alan Gadacz and Patty Kokesh. Pallbearers were Jericho Forney, Krishna Klinger, Chad Gardner, Wendy Johnson, Stacy Biwott and Todd Nickel.  Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.

  1. Gloria was such an awesome lady always had an hear to listen when you needed one and always welcomed people with open arms, She was truely an angel on earth and now we are lucky to have her as an angel looking over us in heaven. Gloria will be missed by many but we can have comfort in knowing she is now at peace and no more suffering.

  2. I heard last Friday of Gloria’s passing. I did not know service details and I am sorry to have missed the funeral. Gloria was always very friendly to me. She always knew me even after many years of not seeing one another- she was definatly a people person. So sorry for your loss.

  3. I am so sorry to read about Gloria’s passing. She was a wonderful gal knowing her back in the 70s. As we all move on with our lives we do remember good memories of the past. Friends are not forgotten.
