Shirley Mortensen, of Chisago City, formerly of Mora, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012 at Isabelle’s Place in Chisago City. She was 76 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.
VISITATION will held held one hour prior to the service.
INTERMENT will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
Shirley M. Mortensen of Chisago City, Minnesota born on March 25, 1936 passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012 at the age of 76 after a long illness.
She is survived by her children Betty (Greg) Nelson of Woodbury, MN, Susan (James) Wright of South St. Paul, MN, Phil (Tammy) Mortensen of Rogers, AR, Becky (Dan) Schultz of Linwood, MN; grandchildren Melissa (Andy) Ho, Jamie Lawrence, Lindsey & Erin Mortensen, Dawn (Jesse) Rehbein, and Joe Schultz; great-grandchildren Lauren & Makenna Ho, Emily & Alex Lawrence, Alexis, JD & Natalie Rehbein. Also survived by brother Jim (Darla) Johanson; sisters Betty (Sievert) Dammer, and Doris Storm; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her husband Andy, her parents Carl and Jennie (Hoeke) Johanson; brother Kenny, and a baby son and grandson.
After growing up on the farm in Milbank, SD she met and married Andy in 1953. They lived for a few years in South Dakota before moving to the Twin Cities area. She was employed for many years as a seamstress and especially enjoyed her job as a furrier sewing fur coats. Later in her life, she enjoyed being a Home Health Aide in the Mora area. Shirley’s hobbies included gardening, crocheting, knitting and many other crafts, but she will probably be best remembered for her love of serving and helping people.
The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice and Parmly LifePointes for their compassion and care. Memorials are preferred.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Chapel, Chaplain Todd Carlson officiated. Music was provided by Tammy Mortensen, Kathy Schultz and Diane Eder. Pallbearers were Joe Schultz, Dawn Rehbein, Lindsey Mortensen, Erin Mortensen, Andy Ho and Randy Mortensen. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora. Arrangements were handled by Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.
