VISITATION will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. – 2 hours prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Thomas N Rivard was the final of nine children to brighten the home of Arthur and Alice (Curry) Rivard.  He was born in St Paul, Minnesota on Christmas Day 1941 and departed from this life on June 24, 2012 due to the complications of a cardiac arrest.

Tom grew up in St Paul attending St John’s Catholic school, graduated from Harding High School, and rounded out his schooling with a degree from St. Paul Vocational Tech.  He moved out of the city permanently in 1968, working at the Nord plant in Hinckley and eventually retiring from Atscott Manufacturing Co in Pine City.  Each of these jobs included machining complex parts to tight specifications for industrial, medical, and everyday equipment and finishing defect free.  Mid-career Tom had taken 10 years off to be “Mr Mom” picking up the household chores and taking great care of Elaine and Keith’s childhood development while Kathy returned to teaching full-time.

It was up north that he met the love of his life, Kathleen, while roller skating.  After just months of dating, they eloped and were married for 40 years.  To this union were born two children, Elaine and Keith.  Tom and Kathy literally built the home their family would grow up in and kept up a small hobby farm with an ever changing assortment of animals.  Tom loved the country life, the wild woods, and the birds and animals that drew near .

Tom is predeceased by his honored father and mother, treasured siblings and in-laws Kenneth and Eileen Rivard, Marguerite and James Erickson, Donovan Rivard, LaVonne Eldart, Geraldine Smith, and sister-in-law Doris Rivard and brother-in-law Robert Malone;  Also, dear nephews, Craig Erickson and Kevin Malone and niece, Shannon Malone.

Tom leaves a legacy of love entrusted to his beloved wife Kathy, daughter and son-in-law Elaine and Chad Keehr and son and daughter-in-law Keith and Jeannie Rivard.  His generous heart will live on in his precious grandchildren Isabelle Keehr and Ivan, Dylan and newborn, Brylee Rivard.  His memory will be carried on by surviving siblings and their spouses, Harris Rivard, Dean and Angie Rivard, Phyllis Malone and in-laws Donald Eldart, Ralph Smith, and Kathy Gagnon Rivard, Carol and Charles Eggert, Carin and Daniel Siebert, and Paul and Sharon Berg and father-in-law, Harold Berg.  The twinkle of his eyes will shine through his nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were handled by Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral and Cremation Services of Mora.  Visitation and Memorial Service was held on Friday, June 29th at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora, Minnesota with Pastor Dean Oelfke officiating; brother-in-law Charles Eggert playing organ; Elaine and grandchildren providing music and nephew Marc Rivard reading from the Holy Bible.

Weep not for this loving husband, gentle father and doting grandfather whose bright wings have cleft the air; he has left a shining pathway that will later lead his loved ones to a paradise more desirable than earth.
