Phyllis Arlene (Nehring) Peterson passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at her home in Mora, MN, with family at her side following complications from years of asthma and COPD. She was born on January 19, 1927, to Richard and Ruth (Roberts) Nehring, one of five children. She graduated from Ogilvie High School in 1945 and attended one year of art training at the University of Minnesota. She married Eugene M. Peterson of rural Brunswick, MN on October 13, 1946. The couple lived in Chandler, Arizona for one year while Gene served in the Air Force. Upon discharge at the end of World War II, they moved back to Brunswick where they were active at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Six children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy.

Following Gene’s death in 1979, Phyl attended St. Cloud State University for her Associates Degree and one year of nurses training. She was a long-time employee at Pamida in Cambridge and Mora, MN. Phyl was passionate about her family and Bible study. She loved sewing, baking, growing flowers, reading, teaching Sunday School and VBS, music, and the farm she and Gene shared for most of her adult life.

She is preceded in death by her husband, two children, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, as well as her parents, three brothers Dick, Arnold and Ken Nehring, one sister Betty Nehring, five sisters-in-law, and seven brothers-in-law.

She is survived by her children: Dale (Rosalie) Peterson of Sapulpa, OK; Joyce (Marlin) Harris of Mora, MN; Gerald (Karen) Peterson of Oklahoma City, OK; and Pamela (Kim) Chapman of White Bear Township, MN; her grandchildren: Amitia (Alex) Claussen; Camille (Tim) Teale; Hallie (Jason) Neuhaus; Nathan (Holly) Harris; Jana (Tyler) Heidebrecht; Andrew (Kristina) Peterson; Zachary Chapman, Nicolas Chapman, and Mackeon Chapman; and great-grandchildren: Abigail and Kathleen Claussen; Victoria, Natalia and Maricela Teale; Heathley and Ainsley Neuhaus; Kierra Heidebrecht; and Baby Peterson (on the way). So sorry for your loss.

My favorite memory of Phyllis was when she was working at Pamida and the girls had her dancing on checkout line.
