William “Bill” Humphrey passed away on January 4, 2012. He was 83 years old.

FUNERAL SERVICE will be held on Sunday, January 8th at 2:00 PM at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Dean Oelfke officiating.

VISITATION will be from 5:00-9:00 PM on Saturday, January 7th,  at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora; plus one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church.

INTERMENT will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorials to Calvary Lutheran Church preferred in lieu of flowers.

William Stanley Humphrey, of Mora, Minnesota, passed away on January 4, 2012 at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora.

Bill was born on February 2, 1928 in Mora, MN to Stanley and Nora (Eken) Humphrey.  He was a graduate of Mora High School in 1946 and then attended night classes at the University of Minnesota while working locally at the Blaw Knox Corporation.  Bill served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict.

In 1950, he married Phyllis Scheneker and the together they were blessed with three children.  Their son, Charles, was adopted in 1958, and in 1960, daughter Andrea was born.  The third child, Thomas, was born in 1964.

Bill started working with his father, Stanley, and brother, Bud, in 1964.  They operated the family construction business, Humphrey Trucking.  Bill continued running the business until his retirement in 1993.

A life-long resident of Mora, Bill was active in the community and served on the Mora Area Fire Department for several years.  He loved to spend time carving wooden walking sticks and creating beautiful crosses.  He especially enjoyed devoting time to his grandchildren- playing with them, sharing special rituals with each one, and surprising them with new experiences.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Nora, brothers Robert and Wayne “Bud”, and son Chuck.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis, of Mora; his children, daughter-in-law Pat, and her sons Justin and Michael; daughter Andrea (Jamey) Anderson, and their children Elizabeth and William; son Tom (Jacki) and their daughters Ellie, Jill, and Carly.  Bill was also survived by his sister, Sandy (Chuck) Burnham, sister-in-law Marilyn Humphrey; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.
Bill was a friendly, caring, and generous man and will be greatly missed.

A Funeral Service was held on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Calvary Lutheran Church of Mora with Rev. Dean Oelfke officiating.  Music was provided by Elaine Keehr and the Calvary Choir.  Casket Bearers were Justin Humphrey, Michael Humphrey, William Anderson, Rick Bogart, Kevin Beck, David Scheneker, and David Johnstone; Honorary Casket Bearers were the Mora Area Fire Department.  Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery of Mora. Military Honors were provided by the Mora American Legion. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.  Arrangements were by the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.  Condolences may be posted at www.aifuneralhome.com

  5. Bill & I met in May of 1949 while both in the army & have remained friends since then. We enjoyed visiting with them in Mora, MN & their visits with us in Cullman, AL We had some good times traveling with them & will treasure the memories.   6. Bill & Phyllis were one of the first people we met when we moved to Mora in July, 1967. They invited us to their home. They welcomed us into their lives and also invited us as members of Calvary Church. We so much appreciated what they have done for us. We will miss Bill very much. Take care, we love you.

  7. My Dad & Bill were in the army together. Our families met years later & all became good friends. Because of our Dad’s friendship, I have found a dear friend in Andrea. Bill was such a wonderful man, I will treasure my time visiting with Bill & Phyllis in Mora & enjoyed their visits with me in Nashville & in AL. He will be greatly missed!
