Elmer Honnette Allen of Cambridge, formerly of Braham; passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the Cambridge Medical Center.  He was 86 years old.
Elmer was born on April 20, 1925 in Broadwater, Nebraska to Swedish immigrant parents Petrus Hjalmar and Yarda (Lofquist) Allen.  Elmer’s parents farmed in western Nebraska during the dustbowl years until 1937 when relatives encouraged the family to come to Martin County in southern Minnesota, where he finished grade school and entered Trimont High School.  Elmer was unable to complete High School due to the need for help on the farm.  In spite of heavy needs placed on him, he is remembered as a kind and generous young person.  As a youth he liked to read, collect stamps and assemble delicate model planes.
In 1948 Elmer married Doris Adamson and together they rented a farm and began their family.   In 1955 he bought a farm southeast of Braham and the young family moved north.  Beside operating the farm for nearly 30 years and raising four devoted children, Elmer worked at Dahlman Manufacturing in Braham and drove School Buses for Braham.  In 1978 he sold his livestock and worked at various seed companies as a sales representative, finally retiring in 1998. Elmer will be dearly missed by his many family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Helen Zieska.
He is survived by his children, Ronald (Eileen) Allen of Indiana and Florida, Darrel Allen of Cambridge, Wanda (Steve) Points of Elko; and Lori (Rick) Turner of North Branch; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; brother John (Jan) Allen of Minnetonka; and sister Charlotte (Fred) Van Vleck of Lawrence, Kansas; former wife Doris Krugen of Cambridge; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at the Braham Covenant Church with Rev. Steve Jennisch officiating.  A time of visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the Church.  Interment will be in the Braham, Mission Covenant Cemetery.  Arrangements are by the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home of Braham.  Condolences may be posted at www.aifuneralhome.com

Sending love and sympathy to all of my familly at this sad time, especially to Ron, Darrel, Wanda and Lori. Your dad was such a sweet and hard-working guy, the attached picture brings back many fond memories of times when he shared his ready smile and laugh. Dad and Aunt Charlotte, we know that you will miss your brother deeply, we were all so very lucky to have him with us for the time we did, and, the memories – we get to keep forever. Much love to you all from myself, Allan, Alynia and Natalya.

    Rest gently, Uncle Elmer.
