Jennie L. Ives was born in Clear Brook, Minnesota to John and Johanna (Finn) Loun. When she was between the ages of 4 and 5 they move to Bagley, Minnesota. She grew up with four brothers and three sisters. She attended a one room school house at the Perry Nelson School and Woodside School, with one teacher for all grades. She attended school through the 8th grade. At the age of fourteen Jennie started working outside the home for local folks doing housework. This type of work took her to Superior, Wisconsin where she continued to work as a housekeeper. She then started working at the Walter Butler Shipyards as a tank cleaner in the big ships. She also worked at the Glensheen Mansion in Duluth as a house cleaner. When not working, Jennie and her friends from the shipyards would go dancing. This is where she met Samuel Ives, who was a painter in the shipyards. They were married December 1, 1944 in Duluth and moved to St. Francis, Minnesota where they worked and had their first two children. They then moved to Anoka, Minnesota and had their 3rd child; then to Coon Rapids, Minnesota where they lived and raised their family of eight children. Jennie worked at West Bend in Anoka and at the Twin Cities Arsenal. After the loss of their son Jerry, Jennie went to work at Park River Estates Care Center in Coon Rapids. She attended college at Anoka Tech to become the Dietary Supervisor and worked in that position for 27 years.
Samuel and Jennie moved to Mora in 1984, and Samuel drove Jennie back and forth to work in Coon Rapids until Samuel got sick. She retired in 1995 and Samuel passed away in January 1996. Jennie stayed in Mora and did some volunteering at Grace Lutheran Church, and was also involved in the Girl Scouts with her granddaughters, Christina and Jessica. Jennie lived at her home until she moved to Elderwood in Hinckley, MN; and the Villages of Mora. From there she moved to the Villa Health Care Center and then to Grace Point Crossing in Cambridge where she peacefully passed away.
