Carolyn Marie Smith was born on December 18, 1939 in Osseo, Minnesota to parents Gordon and Elsie (Sallberg) Curtis.  She attended Osseo Schools, graduating high school in 1957.  After school she began working as a waitress at the Brown Derby Café is Osseo.  In 1958 Carolyn met Gordon Smith while skating at the Crystal Roller Rink.  Gordon was drafted into the Army and served in Korea for 36 months.  After his return, Gordon and Carolyn were united in marriage on August 22, 1959 at the Methodist Church in Osseo.  The couple remained in Osseo and had three boys, Timothy, Todd, and Thomas.

In 1963 Carolyn and Gordon moved to the Dalbo area, where they farmed dairy and crops for many years.  Carolyn loved having all kinds of animals on the farm, especially her many cats.  Carolyn went back to school and received training as a nurse’s aid, which she used working in the Cambridge State Hospital for a number of years.  Carolyn also worked at the Sportsman Café in Mora as both a waitress and cook for many years.  Carolyn volunteered much of her time to the Kanabec County Sheriff’s Reserve, at the One More Time thrift store, and was a proud member of the Ogilvie area First Responders.  In April of 2002, Carolyn suffered a severe stroke and was unable to remain at home.   She moved to the Villa Health Care Center where she enjoyed playing Bingo, listening to books on tape, and being involved in the different activities offered.

Carolyn loved searching for antiques and scouring the flea markets for a treasure. She was an avid quilter, making quilts for her children, grandchildren, neighbors, and friends.   She will be missed by her family and friends.
