Stanley Holmstrom, of Sandstone, formerly of Mora, died on Monday, May 30th. He was 80 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be held on Wednesday, June 8th, 2:00 PM at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora.
VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
INTERMENT will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
Stanley Jonas Holmstrom, of Sandstone, formerly of Mora, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2011 at the Sandstone Nursing Home. He was 80 years old.
Stanley was born June 24, 1930 in Mora, Minnesota to parents Jonas and Martha (Johnson) Holmstrom. He attended the District 13 Lafayette country school in Comfort Township. In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served his country in Korea during the war and was honorably discharged in 1953. Stan returned home to Mora and resided in town for a number of years. He worked construction jobs and farmed for a number of years. Due to war time injuries, Stan experienced many health complications. He lived at the Golden Horizons Assisted Living Center and Sophia’s Manor in Pine City for 15 years. In 2010 he moved to the Sandstone Nursing Home where he lived until his death.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mildred Holmstrom, brother Mauritz Holmstrom, brothers-in-law Walter Cummings, Eric Sanders, Allen Sanders, and William Clementson.
He is survived by his siblings Elsie Cummings of Pine City, Dorothy Sanders of the Twin Cities, Violet Sanders of Mora, Ruth Clementson of Pine City, and Don (Rita) Holmstrom of Mora; sister-in-law Betty Holmstrom of the Twin Cities; special friends Dennis and Gayla Olson of Mora; Many nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, June 8 2011 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora with Mike Norton officiating.
