Irene Elizabeth (Abraham) Loose Gibson, of Mora, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2011 at the home of her daughter Sharon and John Strandlund in rural Cambridge. She was 88 years old.
Irene was born on June 1, 1922 to parents Albert August and Francis Elizabeth (Scharf) Abraham at the family’s home in the Boyd/ St. Leo area of Yellow Medicine County in Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm with her sister Ethel. Their mother passed away when Irene was only five years old and their dad raised both girls by himself. Irene was baptized and confirmed at the St. John’s Lutheran Church and attended German country school through the eighth grade.
Irene married Louis Loose on December 7, 1941 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Omro. To this union eleven children were born; nine girls and two boys. Later Irene was united in marriage to Carnel Gibson on November 20, 1976 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora.
Irene was a farm wife and mom who loved to cultivate corn and beans. She liked to cook, bake, garden, and sew on her Brunena sewing machine. Irene worked as a nursing assistant at the Kanabec hospital and the St. Croix Hospital. She worked at Nelson’s Variety and Ace Hardware in Mora. She also did waitressing in Mora and North Branch.
After retiring, Irene bought a Scamp camper and was a Campground Host at Lindberg State Park in Little Falls, MN for 14 summers. She loved that job the best!! Irene loved to dance to old time music with her dancing friends until her arthritis wouldn’t let her anymore. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her family would like to thank to Karen and Kathrene from Visiting Angels Living Assistance Service for all their help and support. Also to the Hospice Nurses and the Home Health Aide for giving our mom such good care. It was so nice to have such a good support team. Thank You All!!
Irene is preceded in death by her parents; husband’s Louis Loose and Carnel Gibson; son Larry Loose; daughter Stella Rich; son-in-law Jay Kearns; grandson Johnny Christiansen; sister Ethel (Gerhardt) Riedger; and infant brother Lester.

  1. My deepest sympathy wishes to the family of Irene. She was such a sweet person to visit with as I knew her when she did cleaning jobs at the ECE office in Braham.
