Walton (Wally) Nanard Anderson was born on April 20, 1925 at home in Brunswick Township in Ogilvie, MN to Nanard and Hilda (Scott) Anderson. He attended Louis Lake Monroe District 32 Elementary School and graduated Valedictorian from Ogilvie High School in 1943, where he played both football and baseball. Upon graduation he remained working on the family farm where he continued as a successful farmer until 1984. On March 20, 1961 he married Gertrude (Gurtie) Fredrickson-Dobe. Although they had no children together Wally openheartedly accepted Gurtie’s grown children as family. Wally was a lifetime member of Siloa Lutheran Church where he was always very active serving on the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Cemetery Board and any other committees or duties as needed.

Baseball was such a part of his life that Wally purchased the land and was instrumental in making sure there was a diamond to play on at Siloa. Wally was a proud member of the National Farmers Organization. Family was very important to Wally. He loved family reunions, large and small. Wally taught all the nephews and grandchildren to drive tractors and eventually cars. Wally loved his John Deer. You could usually find him on his tractor or with his beloved cows. Many people benefited from Wally’s large vegetable garden. Wally always had cookies or a home baked cake and the coffee on in case someone stopped by for a visit. If you were a child who was tagging along on a visit to Wally’s he made sure you left with a sweet treat. He surrounded himself with friends and family. He never met a person, no matter their age, who didn’t call him friend. Wally was always giving of himself graciously to any one who needed a helping hand or listening ear. Wally lived by Gods rule to love others as you would have them love you. Wally loved dogs, music, the Minnesota Twins (sometimes the Vikings) and reading anything non-fiction, especially his Bible. Wally was considered the family encyclopedia; he was so knowledgeable and NEVER forgot a fact or date. Wally moved to Elmhurst Commons in December 2007 where he enjoyed participating in the many actives with his friends and the wonderful staff.

Wally was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, Brother; Ivan Anderson, Sisters; Adeline Anderson, Lenore Anderson, Lorraine Southerland, Niece; Lana Mattson.

He is survived by his brother LeRoy (Joanne) Anderson of Fridley; sister Deloris Anderson of Columbia Heights; step-children: Darrell (Kathy) Dobe of Andover & Dorothy (Ronald) Rysdam of Braham; many step-grandchildren, and great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, other relatives and friends.
