Gordon Lemke, of Mora, died on Tuesday, December 7th at Foley Nursing Home. He was 83 years old.
FUNERAL will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Dec. 11th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Foley.
VISITAION will be 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
BURIAL will be at Howard Lake Cemetery.
Gordon H. Lemke was born November 28, 1927 in Annandale, Minnesota to Charles and Sarah (Uecker) Lemke. He was baptized on January 8, 1928 and confirmed on May 18, 1941 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Annandale. Gordon attended Annandale School through the 10th grade. His family moved to Howard Lake where he later graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1945. After high school he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served his country from November 28, 1945 to April, 1947 in Germany. Upon returning home he met Margie Diers and they married on June 13, 1950. One daughter, Nancy, was born. Gordon worked for Armour & Company and later became a truck dispatcher for LaSalle Trucking Company in St. Paul, Minnesota. Gordon and Margie purchased a farm at Rogers, Minnesota in 1960, and in 1976 moved to a farm northwest of Mora, Minnesota. Gordon retired from LaSalle in 1980 when he devoted his time to raising beef cattle and farming. In 1989 Gordon and Margie moved to a small farm in Comfort Township just south of Mora and built their dream retirement home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald, brother-in-law, Clarence Chouinard, nephew, Thomas Lemke and son-in-law, Paul Spehar.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Margie of Foley, Minnesota; daughter, Nancy (Gary) Sobas of Mora, Minnesota; grandchildren, Katie Sobas of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Jennie Sobas of Superior, Wisconsin, and Brian (Sarah) Sobas of Fridley, Minnesota; sister, Elaine Chouinard of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Dolores Lemke of Howard Lake, Minnesota, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Foley, Minnesota. Rev. T. J. Rehwaldt officiated. Music was provided by Kathy Jacquemart. Pallbearers were Katie Sobas, Jennie Sobas, Brian Sobas, Wayne Diers, Wayne Lemke and Lyle Lemke. Interment was at Howard Lake Cemetery in Howard Lark, Minnesota.
