Delores Bates, of Wahkon, formerly of Mora, passed away after a short illness on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Mille Lacs Nursing Home in Onamia, Minnesota. She was 76 years old.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held on Friday, November 12 ,2010 at 9:00 am at the Isle Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Charles Visser presiding. *(2100 Oaks St. Isle, MN 56342)*
VISITATION will be from 8:00 am-9:00 am at the church.
INURMENT will be at 1:15 pm at Fort Snelling National Cemetery of Minnepolis, Minnesota.
Delores Marie Bates was born on November 17, 1933 to Edward & Alma (Palmer) Glines in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Robert Bates on April 8, 1950. They resided in Minneapolis until 1974; then moved to Wahkon where they owned and operated “Hanks All Season’s Resort.” In 1979 other job opportunities took them to the Iron Range. In 1981 they then moved to Mora to be close to her mother. After Bob’s death in April 2001 Delores remained in Mora until 2006; then moved to Wahkon once again where she resided until the Lord called her home. Over the years she worked as a waitress and volunteered her services for Kanabec County. She loved to attend whatever activity she could; to watch them and be with them. Delores always had a mission and tried to organize everything. She also had a drive that just wouldn’t let her rest until she no longer had the energy. She also loved camping, fishing, gambling, Christmas and baking. In days past she also enjoyed bowling and playing cards with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Robert; son Robert Leroy; parents; step-parents and a brother Edward Glines.
She was loved and will be greatly missed by her daughters Susan (Paul) Petty of Wahkon, Jeanette Bates of Wahkon, Linda (Scott) Chagnon of Havre MT; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; half sister Judy (David) Storgaard of Princeton; half brother Mike (Char) Glines of Arizona; special friends Brett and Gizmo; plus many other relatives and friends.
Memorial service was held on Friday, Nov. 12th at Isle Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Chuck Visser presiding. Music was provided by Dave Hagstrom and Mona Petty. Inurnment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
