Merle Sleiter, of Mora, MN, died on Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora. He was 93 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be held on Monday, August 30th at 3:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Mora.
VISITATION will be from 1:00-3:00 P.M. or two hours prior to the service on Monday at the church.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE & BURIAL will be at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 31 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Pipestone, MN
Merle Clifford Sleiter was born in Steen, Minnesota on July 21, 1917 to John and Emma (Riss) Sleiter. He grew up on the family farm with his sister, Marion and attended country school through the 8th grand. At an early age his father moved to Pipestone, Minnesota to farm and Merle continued to farm with him, which he greatly enjoyed.
He was married on October 10, 1940 to Sylvia DeZeeuw. To this union five children were born. He continued to farm until 1963 when they moved to Tyler, Minnesota. They farmed there until moving to Mora, Minnesota in 1966. He worked at Land O’ Lakes feed and fertilizer division until he retired in 1980. After retirement he worked at several other jobs.
Before and after his retirement he enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and a son Marlin.
He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Sylvia of Mora; children Marlis (wife of Marlin); Dale (Pat), Dennis (Monica), David, and Janet Holler; grandchildren Kelly (Randy) Hanson, Mark (Cathryn) Sleiter, Rebecca (Mike) Kennedy, Jodi Sleiter, Ryan (Liberty) Sleiter, Nicole (Mike) Perry, Nathan (Michelle) Sleiter and Mathew Sleiter; great-grandchildren Neal (Tiffany) Hanson, Betsy Hanson, Cody, Calvin and Carson Sleiter, Aidan, Claire and Sean Kennedy, Zachery Sleiter, Campbell and Denica Sleiter, and Markus Sleiter. Other survivors include nieces, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 30 at First Presbyterian Church in Mora, MN. Rev. Lee Edwards and Rev. Duane Fowler officiated. Music was provided by Alice Nelson and Randy Reynolds. Pallbearers were Nathan Sleiter, Mathew Sleiter, Ryan Sleiter, Mark Sleiter, Neal Hanson and James Hicks. Honorary pallbearers were Merle’s granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Interment and a graveside service was held on Tuesday, August 31st at New Woodlawn Cemetery in Pipestone, MN.
