George Simmens of Mora, died at his home on Saturday, June 26, 2010.
MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held on Tuesday, June 29 at 1:00 P.M. at Fish Lake Chapel.
MEMORIAL VISITATION will be one hr. prior to the service at the church.
George Simmens passed away June 26, 2010 at his home in Mora, MN after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 75 years old.
George was born September 3, 1934 in Widnes, England to Norman and Francis Simmens (Smith). He lived there until May 1946 when he moved with his family to America. He then grew up on a farm in Longville, MN attending school at Pine River-Hackensack and doing log work in Longville.
George married Margaret Blanchert on December 6, 1955. They moved to Minneapolis/St. Paul area where he worked as a painter for a few years. They then moved to Grand Rapids, MN to raise their 4 children. He worked on the power lines for Asplundh for 40 years. He retired in 1999 and married Mary Maxine Simmens September 18, 1999. They moved in 2002 to Mora, MN where they presently lived.
George enjoyed anything outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and riding 4-wheeler. He loved spending time with family, playing with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Henry Young; first wife Margaret; brothers Norman, Keith; sister Jesse Grady; step-daughter Karla Simmens; and mother-in-law Wava Strait.
Survived by wife Mary of Mora; sons George Raymond (Cindy) Simmens, Dale Simmens; daughters Debbie (Michael) Washburn, Diana Krueth all of Grand Rapids;17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; step-children Norma (Marvin) Billstrom of Cambridge, Linda Coleman (Steve Dahl) of Mora, Diane (Joseph) Agresto of Columbia Heights, Jeff (Debbie) Freedlund of Cambridge; sisters Marian Heavirland of Grand Rapids, Joan Young of Sauk Rapids; brothers Donald (Nancy) Young of Anoka, Tony Young of Grand Rapids; sister-in-law Betty Strait of Grand Rapids; nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, June 29th at Fish Lake Chapel in rural Mora. Rev. Bob Bohachek officiated. Music was provided by Rachel Vreeland and Rev. Bob Bohachek. Final disposition was by cremation.
