Joan Kay Ammerman, of Mora, MN, was called home to be with her Lord and her loving husband on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 after a lengthy illness. She was 73 years old.
Joan Kay Patterson was born September 18, 1936 in Lake City, Iowa to Glen and Dorothy (Blahavietz) Patterson. Along with two brothers, the family relocated to Minnesota. Her parents divorced and her mother then married Arthur Schloesser and the two families blended together; with six brothers and three sisters.
Joan attended Henriette School and Pine City High School. She accepted the Lord when she was 15 years old and attended church regularly. She loved to sing and teach Sunday School.
She went to Wessington Springs College in South Dakota, worked in the Twin Cities and at Hall Drug in Mora. She married Jim Ammerman and to this union five children were born. They bought Jim’s parent’s farm near Mora and they went into farming full time. She worked very hard side by side with her husband on the farm, but made time for gardening, sewing and woodworking. She also worked a few part-time jobs along with the farming and milking cows.
She loved children and was involved in 4-H. Also, she loved collecting cow figurines or anything with a black and white cow.
Joan fought a brave battle with breast cancer. With her loving husband and Jesus by her side, she won that battle. Praise the Lord!
She loved her family and especially loved to play with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; and will be sadly missed by all.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband James; brothers Harold, Raymond and Donald Schloesser; grandson Zachary; great-grandson Tate; father and mother-in-law Clarence and Regina Ammerman.
Joan is survived by two sons Mark (Holly) Ammerman of Mora, Ken (Lisa) Ammerman of Brunswick; three daughters Wendy (Scott) Manthie of Mora, Janell Ammerman of Mora and Jodi Ammerman of Rosemount, MN; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; four brothers Dick (Theidi) Patterson of Mora, Ron (Joan) Patterson of Brooklyn Center, MN, Jerry (Jane) Schloesser of Rhode Island and Thomas Patterson of Florida; three sisters Judy (Dave) Ammerman of Isanti, Helen Lemke of Long Prairie and Sally Steiner of Mora; plus many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
