Barbara Salzer, of Pine City, died on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Kanabec Hospital in Mora. She was 81 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 4th at Henriette Community Church.
VISITATION will be from 9:00-11:00 AM on Friday, June 4th at the church.
INTERMENT will be at Henriette Cemetery.
Barbara Carolina Salzer, of Pine City, Minnesota passed away on May 19, 2010 at the Kanabec Hospital, Mora, Minnesota where she was hospitalized for three days. She was 81 years old.
Barbara was born on December 27, 1928 at home in McIntosh County, in the area of Danzig, North Dakota to Thomas and Katharina (Rotfusz) Martz. She grew up on the family farm, the third of four siblings. She married Eugene Gottlieb Salzer on October 2, 1949. To this union twelve children were born. Barbara was a stay at home mom, and assisted with the family plumbing business. In 1987 through 1990 she worked as a dishwasher in the restaurant at the American Legion. In 1993 she moved to the Twin Cities with Lana. She attended the Henriette Community Church of Grasston, Minnesota. Her hobbies included baking, canning, cooking, doing Bible word search puzzles, spending time with the animals on the farm, playing bingo, visiting with family at the farm and Savage, and visiting with friends and staff at the Lakeside Medical Center Nursing Home in Pine City where she lived from 2001 to 2010. She enjoyed going to the Bill and Gloria Gaither Concerts when they came to the Twin Cities, listening to gospel and country music, singing and praying, reading her Bible (favorite Scriptures were Psalm 23 and Matthew 6:9-13). She put God first in her life; loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed all the family gatherings in Ashley, Cooperstown and Fargo, ND, the west coast, and Grasston and Savage, MN. She was always ready and willing to help family and friends whenever the opportunity arose. Barbara was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Katharina Martz; one brother Alvin Martz; and former husband Eugene Salzer.
She is survived by her twelve children and their spouses; daughter Lana Salzer of Savage MN, daughter Sandra Salzer of Grasston MN, daughter Bonnie (John) Davis of Fargo, ND, son Gene Salzer of Gillette WY, son Joel (Pam) Salzer of Cooperstown, ND, daughter Gwendolyn (Andrew) Stephenson of Ridgefield WA, son Berney (Annmarie LaDuke-Salzer) Salzer of Minneapolis MN, son Wade Salzer of Savage MN, son Neal Salzer of Dallas TX, son Brian (Claudia) Salzer of Lake Oswega OR, son Jason Salzer of Gillette, WY, daughter Jocelyn Salzer of Grasston MN; seven grandchildren Brent Salzer, Nicholas Davis, Tara (Adam) Krabbenhoft, Melissa Davis, Jeremy Salzer, Chace Salzer, and Lucius Jacques LaDuke-Salzer; four great-grandchildren Rylan Krabbenhoft, Taylor Jr., Anthony and Vincent; one brother Clifford (Leona) Martz; one sister Grety (LeRoy) Gross; other relatives and friends.
