P. Kommerstad webPatricia Kommerstad, of Mora, formerly of St. Paul, died on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora. She was 85 years old.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 8th at First Presbyterian Church in Mora.

VISITATION will be one hour to the service on Saturday at the church.

Patricia (Pat) Mary Kommerstad, was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on February 20, 1925. Pat had three sets of parents during her childhood. She grew up on Snelling Ave. near the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. She was an excellent speed skater and trained for the Olympics. She also won many ribbons with her Collies competing in dog shows.
Pat met Leo Fazio; they were married and to this union John was born. Pat put herself through college at the University of Minnesota and graduated with a degree in Nursing. Pat worked as a Nurse at Riverview and Mounds Park Hospitals. Pat met Stanley Kommerstad; they were married and to this union Steve and Kristine were born. Pat and Stan owned a restaurant in Grand Rapids. Over the years, they lived in and renovated houses in Grand Rapids, Stillwater and St. Paul Park. The family enjoyed many adventurous camping trips. Later in life, Pat and Stan took many vacations around the world. They moved to Escondido, California where Pat continued her nursing career at Beverly Hills Manor. Pat and Stan looked forward to many visits from their children and grandchildren while in California. Stan passed away in 1981. Pat continued living in California until she retired from Nursing in 1994. She then moved back to Minnesota and purchased a home in Mora. Pat loved being back in Minnesota and taking care of her house, gardens and animals. Pat was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mora and loved being a part of the Mora community. Pat was a loving and gracious woman who always had a smile and hug to share. Pat will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Pat was preceded in death by her brothers, husband, and son Steven. Pat is survived by children, John (Molly) Fazio of Portland, Oregon and Kristine Krizan of Mora; grandchildren, Nikki (Charles) Fazio-Veigel of Highland Park, New Jersey, Tony (Julie) Fazio of Houston, Texas, Marschal (Malissa) Fazio of Los Angeles, Emily Fazio of Portland, Oregon, and Angela (Jon) Kelling of Braham; two great-grandchildren, Anna Kelling and Joel Kelling of Braham; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
