Edna Kristine Anderson, of Mora, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Grace Pointe Crossing Gables East of Cambridge. She was 96 years old.

Edna was born on March 6, 1914 to parents Nels and Christine (Lidstrom) Hallstrom on the family farm in Whited Township in Kanabec County, Minnesota. She was the third of thirteen children and attended Sheridan District 26 country school, graduating in the 8th grade. As a young adult she went on to join her two older sisters and several cousins in the twin cities where she worked at nursing homes and later at Sears.

Edna met and married Carl F. V. Anderson on June 10, 1944 at the Quamba Baptist Church. Together the couple took over the Anderson family dairy farm, and were blessed with two sons Gary in 1946 and Mark in 1949. Edna took care of her family, but also worked as a caregiver for several elderly members of the community. In 1972 Edna and Carl sold the farm and moved into Mora where they spent their final years.

Edna loved her family and her church. She was a lifelong member of the Quamba Baptist Church and was active in many aspects of the church. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, played in a string band, and worked with the ladies aide groups.

Edna loved to visit and entertain her many family and friends and was a wonderful hostess. When her health and mobility declined, she still maintained contact with frequent and lengthy telephone conversations. Edna was also a wonderful piano player, and loved to play for her family and friends even beyond her 95th birthday. Edna also enjoyed gardening and canning with her mother and sisters and later with Carl and the boys. She loved family gatherings and was well known for several of her special recipes. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.

Edna is preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, sisters Olga Gotfredson, Anna “Amy” Lindgren, Vina Bennett, and Lola Korsch, brothers Robert, Elton, and Conrad “Bud” Hallstrom.

She is survived by her sons Gary (Donna) of Plymouth, and Mark of Coon Rapids; grandsons Kirk (Andrea) of Crystal, and Trent (Tracy) of Hastings; great grandchildren Brady, Brooke, Brynn, Brielle, Isabella, Olivia, Eva, and Izola; brothers Ralph (Fran) Hallstrom of Prescott, AZ, Clifford (Bev) of Brook Park, Gordon (Ardis) of Brook Park and Bill (Elaine) of Mora; sister Bernice (Jim) Brooks of Oceanside, CA; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Quamba Baptist Church with Rev. Ivan Fiske presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery of Mora. Memorials are preferred to Terri and Jeff Sprecher at Mission Impact, www.missionimpact.com, or a charity of your choice.

I will always remember Edna Anderson as being one who took special interest in all her family and cousins. Many memories of QBC and basement potlucks and Lidstrom Reunions….I think she was always in the kitchen cutting and serving cake. Edna along with her sisters and brothers were a central part of my growing up. She was a very good fine woman. In sympathy, Gerry Lidstrom

    Dear Family,

We just returned from out of state and found the notice of Edna’s death on our e-mail.

Cathy will always remember Edna’s kindness, her laughter, and her “have fun” attitude toward life. One of those fun memories from childhood is: Edna would coast as far as possible with the car into the yard to see how far she could coast. This happened almost every time she returned home.
On our visits to her home she always made us feel welcome and she seemed to enjoy her role as hostess. Her Rice Pudding and Homemade Bread/Rolls were enjoyed by us as well as others.

We send our condolences to her whole family.
