D. Nord webPhotoDon Nord, of Mora, passed away on Saturday, Janaury 23, 2010 at his home. He was 75 years old.

FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 3:00 PM at the Church of the Nazarene in Mora, on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 with Rev. Mel Patrick presiding.

There will be NO visitation time prior to the service.

INTERMENT will be in the Oakwood Cemetery of Mora.

Donald Hilmer Nord of Mora died on Sat., Jan. 23, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. He was 75 years old. He was ailing since Dec. of 2009.
Donald was born in Mora, MN in Knife Lake Township, on March 31, 1934 to Hilmer and Magdalena (Olson) Nord. He attended Blaine Elementary school through the 8th grade, there after began to work to help support his mother.
At the age of 17, he was united in marriage on May 24, 1952, to Marie Annette Dickhoff, also of Mora, MN. At that time he was employed in Bud Shaddocks scrap yard, located in Mora. From 1952 to1960, he was employed as an operator/repairman for M.A. Hannah Mining Company in Hibbing, MN.
After the births of his first two children, Don moved his family to California where he worked as a marine machinist and lead man for Todd Shipyards in San Pedro, from 1960 to 1963. While in California, he started his training as a diesel mechanic at Diesel Service Center until 1965. At this time he returned to Minnesota to work for Cummins Diesel Inc. located in Duluth, MN until 1979. After moving to Duluth, Don and Marie had three more children. Donald injured his back while working as a diesel mechanic and was unable to continue his career.
At the age of 45, and with three young children to support, Don went back to school and received his GED and continued his education by graduating from the University of Wisconsin Superior, with an Associates Degree in marketing.
In 1981, Don returned to Mora to open an Adult Foster Home with his wife Marie and retired in 2001, after caring for 45 residents, during its operation of 18 years.
Throughout his life he had many hobbies and interests. He was well known as one who could fix anything. He especially enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and restoring Model A Fords, as well as spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Don attended the Mora Church of the Nazarene and looked forward to going home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; older brothers, Merlin and Naylor; older sister, Shirley Olson; and his loving wife and best friend Marie.
He is survived by his children, Theren “Terry” (Jen) of Mora, Donna Hagen (Daryl) of Duluth, Stephen (Linda) of Mora, Roberta Tipp (Brad) of Mora, Bette Fenske (Gerald) of Eau Claire, WI.; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were on Wed., Jan. 27, 2010, at Mora Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. Melvin Patrick presiding.
Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery.
