William Thoeny, of Ogilvie, died on January 20, 2010 at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora, MN. He was 85 years old.

He was born on November 26, 1924 in Valzeina, Switzerland to Leonard and Anna (Michel) Thoeny. When he was 2 years old, his parents along with their five sons immigrated to America. They settled on a farm in what is now known as Lino Lakes, MN. When he was 8 years old, his father passed away, and eventually his mother married his father’s brother. This marriage produced four more brothers and one sister. When he was 14 years old he and his four older brothers started a farm of their own. The farmed together until they all married.

On September 12, 1953 he married Betty Weiss in St. Paul, MN. They lived in St. Paul for a year and then moved to Lino Lakes. They had three children and he worked at Molin Concrete and the Ashbech Construction. In 1964 they moved to a farm at Lindstrom, MN. In 1969 he quit his job at Ashbechs and returned to full time farming. In 1977 they, along with their sons David and Don and daughter-in-law Debbie, moved to a farm in Ogilvie. David passed away in 1980. Bill, Betty, Don and Debbie farmed together until his health started to fail and he had to retire. Don’s family is continuing with the farm. Bill and Betty stayed on the farm until he entered the Villa Health Care Center in October 28, 2009, where he received much loving, tender care.

His biggest joys in life were his family, the farm, work and deer hunting. He and Betty did some traveling when he could tear himself away from his beloved farm. They enjoyed 2 trips to Alaska, plus various other trips.

He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by son David; grandson Andy Raymo; son-in-law Jay Raymo; parents and brothers Chris, Leonard, George and John Thoeny.

He is survived by wife Betty of Ogilvie; daughter Carol Raymo of Oak Park Heights; son Don and wife Debbie of Ogilvie; grandchildren Kevin (Stacy) Thoeny, Brian (Sara Voss) Thoeny, Donald Thoeny Jr., and Carrie Raymo; great-grandchildren Briana and Nicole Thoeny; brothers Matt (Marie) of Great Falls, MT, Henry (Frances) of Winnemucca, NV, Fred (Shirley) of Miles City MT, Simeon of Circle, MT; sister Ann (Merle) Vine of Circle, MT; sister-in-law Valeria of Weeki Wache, Florida; plus many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
