A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, January 22, 2010 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home with Rev. Ivan Fiske presiding.

VISITATION will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Shirley Evone Olson, of Brook Park, Minnesota, passed away on January 20, 2010 at home with her family. She was 81 years old.

Shirley was born November 20, 1929 at home in Knife Lake Township, Kanabec County, Minnesota to Hilmar and Lena (Olson) Nord. She was the third of four siblings. She went to school in a one room school near Knife Lake and then attended Mora High School. She married Dewey Olson on September 7, 1948. To this union four children were born. Dewey and Shirley lived in Minnesota until 1955 when they moved to Lomita, California where they lived until 1988 when they returned to Minnesota to retire in Brook Park. Shirley was a dedicated wife and mother. In addition to raising her four children she also took in and raised another young teenage son after he was abandoned by his mother. Shirley enjoyed polishing semiprecious stones and making silver jewelry. She was an avid antique collector and spent many weekends finding many treasures at yard sales, flea markets, and swap meets. Shirley was a selfless wife and mother who was the cornerstone of her family and took pride in raising her children, six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Merlin and Naylor Nord, her son Andrew.

Shirley is survived by her husband Dewey, sons Clayton (Trudi) and Donald (Viola), daughter Mari; grandchildren Andrea, Andrew, Richard, Breanne, Larry, and Joshua; as well as her brother Donald Nord, and nine great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service was held on Friday, January 22nd at Akkerman Ingebrand Chapel on Mora. Rev Ivan Fiske officiated. Final disposition was by cremation.
