Theodore John Hanson Sr., of Onamia, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at the Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia. He was 67 years old.

Theodore was born on June 4, 1942 in Pembine, Wisconsin. He grew up in the Hastings and Mankato areas with his parents Morris and Charlotte Hanson.

Ted was truly a jack of all trades. During his life, he spent time working in Louisiana on the barges and riverboats, in North Carolina in a furniture factory, and in Minnesota and Michigan on constructions crews. Due to an injury while working construction, he began driving over-the-road truck for Stewart’s Livestock out of South St. Paul. In 1975 Ted became his own boss, owning and driving his favorite Peterbuilt truck as far away as Alaska. Ted spent several years working for Buckley in Mora as a garbage truck driver from 78- ’79 and also drove a commuter bus from Mora to the Twin Cities. One of Ted’s favorite jobs was working for Scenic Lines as a tour bus driver. He loved to meet and visit will all of the passengers and drove to numerous destinations, including Florida. Due to his declining health, Ted was forced to retire in 2000. He spent his retirement years in Onamia, where he enjoyed his independence and could be seen riding his scooter around town.

Ted will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, and ability to make anyone laugh with a joke or funny story. Ted had several hobbies including whittling diamond willow wood, attending auctions, and adding to his vast collection of old model cars, which grew larger every year. Ted enjoyed good food, good beer, and time with family and friends. He will be missed.

Ted is preceded in death by his parents; son Scott Hanson; sister Mary E. Campbell; brother Steven Hendricks; and brother-in-law Bud Peterson.

He is survived by his son Ted Jr. (Carrie) Hanson of McGrath; sister Chrisann Hanson of Cannon Falls; sister Stephanie Hanson (Judy Fugate) of Stillwater, and Rosemary Peterson of Coleman, WI; brother-in-law Noah Campbell of Moravian Falls, NC; grandchildren Sylvia, Brandy, Lance, and Scott Hanson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

I just want to say that Uncle Ted will be missed greatly. I have not met him since I was VERY little, but I have heard so much about him from my mother (Rosemary). I have talked to him on the phone in the past couple of years. I listen to my Mother’s excitement every time she talks about finding Uncle Ted and Aunt Mary (Landon), again. I know Uncle Ted is watching his family now and he is healthy! Please take comfort in the fact that you knew him! Love Jeanine
