Rena Saathoff, of Henriette, died on Sunday, January 10th at the Kanabec Hospital in Mora. She was 74 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICES will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 15th at Henriette Free Community Church.
VISITATION will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on
Thursday, January 14 at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora, and also 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
Rena Marie Glawe Saathoff was born to Frederick William Glawe and Juanita Edna (Williams) Glawe on September 28, 1935 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. She attended country school in Jackson County, MN, then attended high school in Jackson City, MN. Following high school, Rena attended business school in Chicago, IL. While she was home from college on Christmas break, she met Robert Saathoff and upon her graduation, they were united in marriage on October 22, 1954.
Rena and Robert moved to Esterville, IA where their daughters Rae and Rita were born. In 1959, the young family moved to Coon Rapids, MN where their daughter Robin was born. While living in Coon Rapids, Rena was busy with activities for the Coon Rapids Fire Department and the PTA at Northdale Elementary. She was also very active in her church, Olive Branch Lutheran in Coon Rapids. In 1972, the family moved to Quamba, MN where they farmed for 4 years. In 1976 Rena and Robert bought the Tavern in Henriette, MN. Rena was a successful business woman. Rena and Robert also owned the gas station, grocery store and Post Office in Henriette for several years.
Rena and Robert retired in 1991. During retirement, they loved to travel to Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Rena had many hobbies. She loved to paint, read novels, cook, play the organ and she especially enjoyed classical music.
Rena is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert and her oldest daughter Rae.
Rena is survived by her daughters; Rita (Daniel) Campbell of Homer, Alaska and Robin Olson of Mora; grandchildren Carrie Campbell, Andrew Campbell, Ryan Saathoff, Reed Saathoff, Christopher Olson, Angela Olson, Chad Olson; great grandson Bailey Saathoff; brother John (Sharon) Glawe; nephews and nieces; John (Sue) Glawe Jr., Julie (Mark) Miller, Nancy (Mark) Fonfara and Charles Saathoff.
Funeral services held on Friday, January 15th at Henriette Free Community Church with Rev. David Dwyer presiding. Music provided by Judy Dwyer and Wyatt Freitag. Pallbearers Robin Olson, Chad Olson, Ryan Saathoff, Reed Saathoff, Charles Saathoff and Robert Schilson. Honorary pallbearers Andrew Campbell, Christopher Olson and Bailey Saathoff. Interment at Henriette Cemetery.
