Sylvia Hodson, of Long Beach, California, formerly of Pine City and Braham, passed away on September 3, 2009. She was 87 years old.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Rich Chronis presiding. Inurment will be in the Rice Lake Cemetery.

Sylvia Marjorie (Johnson) Hodson was born on March 30, 1922 to Henry A. and Olga (Olson) Johnson in Hanska (Brown County) Minnesota.
In 1930, she moved with her parents and 3 brothers to Renville County where she attended school and graduated from Olivia High School. She was married
to E.H. Yunker on March 4, 1940, and together they moved to California. One daughter (Dyana) was born to this union.
During WWII, she was employed by Douglas Aircraft Co., as liaison material expediter for the El Segundo and Oklahoma City plants. Following the war, she attended the University of Southern California (USC) and entered the real estate and insurance field for approximately 14 years.
On June 17, 1960, in Malibu Beach, CA she was married to Robert Hodson who preceded her in death in 1964. She then returned to Braham and was a Pine City resident from 1974 until she moved to Texas in 2003.
In our local area, Sylvia may be remembered for her extensive work in Chemical Health, serving first as area counselor for the Pine County Court, and later as Program Director for both Pine Manor and Serenity Manor, Inc. facilities. She retired in 1990.
After retirement Sylvia continued to do volunteer work in Chemical Health, enjoyed visiting family and friends. Sylvia was an avid reader, loved to play cards and do crossword puzzles.
Sylvia was a member of Braham Ev. Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and 25 plus year member of the Sons of Norway.
She is survived by daughter Dyana Casella and grandson, Zachary Casella of California. Sister-in-laws: Jeanne (Warren) Johnson of Minneapolis; Dorothy (Arlowe) Johnson of Braham; and Kay (Robert) Johnson of Wyoming MN; many nieces and nephews as well as acquaintances, co-workers, and friends.
She was preceded in death by husbands E.H. Yunker, and Robert Hodson; parents Henry and Olga Johnson; brothers Warren, Arlowe and Robert; and
son-in-law Thomas J. Casella.
Memorial services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Braham Ev. Lutheran Church, with Rev. Richard Chronis presiding. Inurnment will be at Rice Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
