Adrianus “Joe” Vander Velden, of Mora, died on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. He was 61 years old.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 10th at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora.
VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Adrianus “Joe” VanderVelden, Jr., was born on September 24th, 1948 in Oisterwyk, Holland. He and his family immigrated to America in 1957. As an adult, Joe spent time serving in the Army and the Merchant Marines. His later careers included many years of traveling as a commercial driver. Later he mastered a number of skills as families welcomed him into their homes; while completing a wide variety of projects for them he would become part of their family before moving on to his next adventure. Joe made many friends all around the world.
He enjoyed mechanical work, building models, traveling to places like the North Shore of Superior, and time with family. He will be greatly missed and remembered with a smile.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother Maria and father Joe Sr.; sister Joby Althoff and grandson Robert Anthony VanderVelden.
He is survived by his children Scott (Lori Kelly) VanderVelden, Allen (Tammy) VanderVelden, Bobby (Lisa Garske) VanderVelden, Heidi VanderVelden and Andy VanderVelden; sister Mary (Larry) Lindquist, brother Huey (Deanna) VanderVelden, 13 grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.
