Kathryn Sundermeyer, of Braham, made her final home run on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at the Grace Pointe Crossing West Care Center in Cambridge, and into the loving arms of her Eternal Savior Jesus Christ. She was 84 years old.
Kathryn was born on May 3, 1925 to parents Fredrick and Anna (Angermann) Rieffer in Kossuth County, Iowa. She was united in marriage on March 26, 1946 to Arthur E. Sundermeyer in Elmore, MN. They lived in and around Fairmont until they moved to the farm in Braham on March 1, 1950. Together they raised three children; Dennis, Gary, and Nancy.
Kathryn was a babysitter for most of her life. She loved children, especially babies. She loved to garden and she canned everything they raised. She took great pride in a clean home and managed to make a full course dinner at every meal. How she managed to get everything on the table at the same time was amazing.
Kathryn was a long time member of the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school for many years and was involved in the Ladies Aid. She also helped to serve at the Park Manor services.
She was a true Minnesota Twin’s fan and quite the authority on their stats, as well as the other teams. She was an avid quilter and combined her two passions to create two original designed Minnesota Twins World Series quilts, something she was most proud of. But most of all, she loved her family. She saved parts of her meager income to help her grandchildren financially which gave her great joy. She will be deeply missed.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur, brothers Fred, Chris, John, Dan, Gottlieb, and Dave Rieffer; sisters Anne Senne and Mary Behrens.
She is survived by her sons Dennis (Janet) of Pine City, and Gary (Pam) of Braham; daughter Nancy (Randy) Fields of Isanti; grandchildren Dawn Sundermeyer, Jamison Sundermeyer, Katie (Rick ) Baker, Mike (Jenny) Sundermeyer, Heather (Chris) Nitzel, Sara Sundermeyer, Tim Fields, and David Fields; great grandchildren Rylee Sundermeyer, Aiden and Josiah Nitzel, and Avery Baker; brothers Henry (Irene) Rieffer, Arthur Rieffer, Arnold Rieffer, and Jacob (Pat) Rieffer; sisters Dorothy Senne, and Alice (Ralph) Anderson; sister-in-law Mrs. Orville Sundermeyer; brother-in-law Lester (Audrey) Sundermeyer; good friend Emma Hermanson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service was held on Monday, August 24, 2009 at the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church of Braham with Rev. Steve Anderson and Rev. Chris Nitzel presiding. Music was provided by Katie Baker. Casket Bearers were Jamison Sundermeyer, Michael Sundermeyer, Raymond Sundermeyer,Tim Fields, David Fields, and Rick Baker. Interment was in the Rice Lake Cemetery of Braham.
