FUNERAL SERVICES will be 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Braham Covenant Church with Rev. Steve Jennisch officiating.

VISITATION will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
INTERMENT will be at Braham Mission Cemetery.

Ivar Peterson, 96, of Cambridge, formerly of Braham and Bloomington, passed away on August 2nd, at Gracepointe Crossings in Cambridge.Ivar was born to Bertha (Nelson) and Alfred Peterson on March, 8th, 1913, on a farm north of Braham MN. He was the 2nd oldest child in a family of five children. His brothers and sisters were a huge part of his life: Carl (and Helen) Peterson, Eldon (and Alvera) Peterson, Vivian (and Gerry) Opsal and Ruby Johnson. Ivar attended Elementary School and High School in Braham, and went on to Dunwoody College (Tech) for training in sheet metal fabrication.Ivar often spoke of the day he was saved, and in 1939 his life changed forever in service to the Lord. He often quoted Bible verses, and made innumerable crosses from all types of material, in hopes of spreading the word that “Jesus Saves”.Ivar married LaVeeda Runyan on November 2nd, 1940 in Rochester , MN. They met when Ivar was working with his brother, Carl, in Rochester in 1940. Ivar and LaVeeda were married for 68 years until LaVeeda’s death in 2008.Ivar worked for Thermo-King in Bloomington, MN, for 33 years. He served as a sheet metal foreman, and supervisor for fabrication. Ivar’s many interests included beekeeping, and making cookie cutters and shelves with hearts carved into them, which were crafted in his shop in the basement.

Ivar built a house in Braham just south of the farm where he grew up. He retired there in 1978. Ivar and LaVeeda spent 21 years in Braham, meeting many new and old friends. Their children and grandchildren enjoyed many visits. Ivar and LaVeeda move to Millridge in Cambridge in 1997, where Ivar continued to serve the Lord by visiting residents and starting the hymn sing at Grandview Christian Living Center. He was cared for at Grandview (Gracepointe) for the last year of his life.

Ivar was a father to three children: Judy (husband Mike Elias) of Rockville, IL, LaMar Paul of Minneapolis, MN and Holger (wife Laura Senn) of Lakeville, MN. Ivar was grandfather to: Char’ae and Tom Lapham, Joy and Scott Lindner, Amy and Brad Beaver, Taj and Dylan Peterson, and Kim Peterson. He was great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren: Corban, Cory, Caleb, Colan and Charity Lapham; Trevor and Brandon Lindner; D’Artagnon and Jorae Beaver.

He was Uncle Ivar to: Paul and Cheryl Bergtson, Barb and Howard Anderson, Stan and Linda Johnson, Greg and Lori Johnson; Sue and Robin Reef, Deb and Steve Holm, Tom and Ruth Opsal; Jan Gillepsie and Denny Peterson; Phil and Karen Oridson, and Mark and Kathy Peterson. Ivar will truly be missed by all of these family members, and many other relatives and friends who loved and knew him.
