j-meringer-web.jpgJoseph Maringer, of Braham, MN died on Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora. He was 89 years old.

No funeral services will be held. Final disposition by cremation.

Joseph Julius Maringer was born May 28, 1920 in Plainview Township, Wabasha, MN to Martin and Clara (Gusa) Maringer. He grew up on the family farm, the oldest of two boys. He attended school through the 8th grade and then worked on the family farm full time until he moved to the town of Plainview, MN. There he owned and operated various businesses such as Maringer Refrigeration, Maringer TV and Radio Repair, and his drive-in restaurant, the” Wheel-In-Drive-In.” Later he met Mildred Ida VanHouten. They were married on July 26, 1975 in Plainview.

After their marriage Joseph and Mildred moved to Stanchfield, MN and later to Grasston, MN. During this time he worked with Charlie Hirsch and Earl Kratch in their gun shop fixing guns. In 1976 Joseph and Mildred moved to Braham, MN and bought their home where they lived together until Mildred’s passing in October of 2006. Joseph remained in their home until May 1, 2009 when he moved to the Villa Health Care Center in Mora, MN. During the time he lived in Braham Joseph worked at Dahlman’s Manufacturing, as a machinist from 1976 until the time of his retirement.

After his retirement he went to school at Pine Tech in Pine City, MN to be a gunsmith. After graduating he opened Joe’s Fix-it Shop and Gunsmithing; in his hobby shop at home in Braham. With his wife Mildred at his side they fixed guns and made various woodworking and leather projects, being very creative. They also enjoyed fishing, logging and thrashing shows and they liked to take trips to southern Minnesota to visit family and friends. They would take a trip around Mille Lacs Lake every year for their anniversary.

Joseph was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wonderful wife Mildred; his parents Martin and Clara; and his brother Levi.

Joseph is survived by five step-children: sons Leroy Plank and Leonard Plank both of Braham, MN; daughters Jessie (Dale) Pagel of Askov, MN, Ardith (Lauren) Lindsay of Finland, MN and Sharon (Kevin) Danson of Braham, MN. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and many other friends and relatives.

Final disposition was by cremation. No funeral services were held. Arrangements were entrusted to the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral & Cremation Services of Mora.
