CHRISTOPHER MICHAEL WALSH

c-walsh-web-photo.jpgChris Walsh of Mora, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 17, 2009 at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was 24 years old.

A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Grace Lutheran Church of Mora with Rev. Doug Larson presiding. VISITATION will be from 10:00am to 1:00 pm at the Church on Saturday.

Christopher Michael Walsh was born April 10, 1985 at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA to Kevin and Marianne (Zeitler) Walsh. He lived in San Diego, then Concord, CA until age seven. The family moved to Minnesota in 1992 and lived in St. Francis, then settled in Mora in 1994.
Chris attended Mora Schools, graduating in 2003. He attended Pine Tech and received his EMT certification in 2004 and worked for Pine City and Kanabec Ambulance Services as an EMT. Chris went back to school while still working for Kanabec, and received his AAS degree in Para medicine from St. Cloud Tech in May of 2008. He was then hired as a paramedic at Kanabec and North Memorial Ambulance Services.
Being a paramedic was his true calling; Chris loved people, was compassionate, caring and excellent at what he did. He admired, loved and had the utmost respect for all of his co-workers. Chris really loved being a paramedic.
Chris met Becky Larson while they were both working as EMTs at Kanabec Hospital. They shared over 3 years building a life together that ended much too soon. They were an adorable couple and Chris loved Becky very much. She was the love of his life.
Chris deeply loved his family and friends to no bounds. He had the biggest heart. He was a devoted son, brother, grandson, uncle and friend. He was larger than life, a comedian; he lit up the room when he walked in. There was never a time when he couldn’t make anybody laugh. He will be so dearly missed – words can’t even describe.
Chris loved the outdoors; he was a true sportsman. Fishing, hunting and golf were his passions. Chris also enjoyed cooking and singing. We all loved to hear him sing.
Chris was preceded in death by his great grandparents Charles Bernard Harvey and Jane Walsh, Walter and Lillian Zeitler, and Ada and Harry Woods; grandfather Walter Zeitler; and many aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his significant other Becky Larson; mother Marianne Walsh (Paul Ellingson) of Mora; father Kevin (Carol) Walsh of Cannon Falls; grandparents Tom and Judy Walsh of Pine City, and Betty Zeitler of Hawthorne, CA; brothers Dan (Beth) Parga of Becker, and Tristen Ellingson of Mora; sister Shayla Walsh of Mora; step-brother Adam Nelson of Cannon Falls; step-sisters Minda, Moria and Jennifer Nelson of Cannon Falls, Kari Nelson of Princeton; nieces Samantha and Lilyana Parga; Becky’s parents Don & Laura Larson of Mora; Becky’s sisters Jennifer Larson of New York and Katie Jo Larson of Mora; Chris’s beloved buddies Bare, C.J, Charms and Gracie; plus many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Chris, you will be forever in our hearts, souls, and memories; a part of our lives forever and an angel watching over all of us. We love you Chris Cakes, Chops, Heavy C, Big Teddy Bear. Until we meet again, may you find eternal peace and love.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 25th at Grace Lutheran Church in Mora. Rev. Douglas Larson officiated. Pianist was Cathe Erhardt. Soloist was Dan Carlson. Pallbearers were Dan Parga, Tristen Ellingson, Don (Buzz) Larson, Paul Ellingson, Scott Peterson, Mike Walbridge, Goldy Thiel, Mike Krone, Garey Pankonin and Gregg Ollestad. Lynn and I are so sorry for your loss. I can not wrap my mind around losing someone so young, especially a child/brother. It isn’t fair and it isn’t suppose to happen that way.

My thoughts and prayers are with Chris’ family and Becky. He was always concerned for the patient and looked forward to the challenges of taking care of those who were very ill. When we worked together I always appreciated his perceptions and ideas-I told him my goal always was for him to be successful in his career. Such a sad loss for everyone who knew him.

Chris was like a brother to me. He was one of the best. We will miss him dearly. I am fortunate to have talked to him recently I only wish I would have told him I loved him before he hung up the phone, but I think he knew what he meant to our family.

Our thoughts and prayers go out towards Chris’ family and friends. His parents surely raised quite a man! As everyone else on this guestbook has said, Chris had a heart full of Gold, and was always concerned about the well-being of others before himself. Chris was the definition of a “great” friend, and my husband and I feel blessed that we knew him. He will certainly be missed by us!

We send our love and prayers to all of you in this difficult time. Just last week, Sammy, Chris’s neice commented on how “cool” her uncle was. Lily shook her head and said, “Yeah, we love him.” What wasn’t there to love about a guy with such a quick smile who always made everyone feel good? Please know we are thinking and praying for you all.

    A LEAF DIVINE

    A single Autumn leaf
once proudly stemming from its tree
    Full of radiant Fall colors
    Though still, plenty of green

    Far too prematurely
the leaf senses the Sacred call
It thought there was more time
but knows now that it must fall

Obediently, it offers up the fight
to the Breeze so Strong and yet Serene
It relinquishes and slowly makes its way
    toward an uncharted destiny

It gently touches many other leaves
as it glides from branch to branch
It makes one final Majestic spin
    before floating to its rest

It lies there for a moment
wondering if this is all there is
Then quietly a voice is heard,
    “You are Magnificent !”

    Tenderly you are lifted up
    embraced with loving care
You will remain with Me in a new Home
where no harm will come to you there

You will be honored and remembered
for the life on your tree today
    You will never be abandoned
nor will your colors fade away

And while it is difficult for us to accept
that the life on your tree is done
the lingering effects of your Glory
    have only just begun.
    -Amy McLaughlin (Becky’s Aunt)

Things will never be as good here without you walsh. So many good times and good laughs. It was an honor to call you friend, and we were all blessed that you called us your friend. You made everything and everyone around you brighter. You will be missed more than you can ever know. Your singing, golf slice (and temper tantrums that ensued) and your magical personality. I was honored to be your preceptor at the end of your medic schooling, and so proud when you said you passed. You were truley great. We love you and will see you again one day. Until then “Roll on Buddy”.

My heart goes out to all of Chris’ family and friends. Even though we had never met, his vivacious personality is so strong in the words people have written about him here and it is inspiring to see the love and support of those he was surrounded by. May your memories of him give you comfort during this difficult time.
