ROBERT SALITROS

r-salitros-web.jpgRobert Salitros, of Mora, formerly of Minneapolis, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at his home in rural Mora. He was 63 years old.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora. VISITATION will be 2 hours prior to the service beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Robert G. “Bob” Salitros – On the early morning of May 30 Bob passed away peacefully in his sleep after an inspirational fight with cancer. Bob’s wife Darlene and his sister-in-law Linda Peterson were with him when he peacefully left this world. Bob was surrounded and supported by the people he loved during his last year; he was very passionate about how important everyone was in his life.

Bob retired in 1997 from the Hennepin County Sherriff’s Department after 28 years of service as a Sherriff’s Deputy and Detective. Bob was an entrepreneur most of his life and was always willing to work hard and make sacrifices to support his family. He was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association.

Bob’s passions include his wife’s cooking, fishing with his sons, boating, and always looking for a new car. Bob loved for things to be clean and neat, his enthusiasm for his lawn, clean windows, and a clean car were the same things that made him special to the people around him.

Bob had many special people in his life; he most cherished the ones that he could help guide with advice when they needed support. His own children have had the benefit of his counsel and will miss his guiding light. Bob left the world a better place with the influence and impact he had on the special people in his life.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents George and Louise Salitros. He leaves behind his loving wife Darlene of Mora; sons David (Kim) of Sauk Rapids, Daniel (Kim) of Isanti; brother, Gerald of Golden Valley; sisters, Betty (Fred) Wresh of Surprise AZ, Janette (Leroy) Bursey of Phoenix AZ, Sandra Einck of Naples Florida, and Linda (Steve) Peterson of International Falls MN; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 15th at 11:00 A.M. at Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a charity of choice.

Darlene, I was disheartened to see Bob’s name in the paper, and my heart totally goes out to you and your sons. Ask if they remember helping to tear down a deck railing to help me when furniture was being delivered and it couldn’t get into the house any other way?! Bob was worried he’d get in trouble, but they did us a big favor…Dar, you married one of the truly good guys. Our only comfort is that we will all be together again, with our Risen Lord. God Bless you all.

My deepest sympathy to Darlene, Bobs special wife, and their two sons, David and Daniel. I know this will be a very hard time in your lifes, but when you feel down and sad and empty, just think about all your good memories of Bob instead. I will certainly miss Bob as I knew Bob as a young boy who grew into a great young man, had a great family and into one of the finest brother-in-laws a person could ask for. Thanks Bob for making my life greater because I had the pleasure to be in yours. Take care of our special Nick, and someday we will meet again. Love you, Darlene, David and Daniel. Uncle Fred

Aunt Darlene, Cousins David & Danny ~
Like the song says, “Only the good die young”. As a child I always loved to watch Uncle Bob and Aunt Darlene dance, as I got older I came to know the wisdom Uncle Bob possessed, and as an adult I realized what a wonderful friend, father and husband he was. Our family was blessed with his kind spirit and bright smile. Uncle Bob earned much respect in his lifetime and will always be loved.

    Stay strong,
    Love,
    Debby

Although we knew him not long, the following poem seems to represent the man. God Bless keep you all.
A True Story of A Real Man
    By Nichole L. Johnson

A man that made an impression on strangers and friends.
Quiet but firm and even more stern.
Strength and courage I have learned from you, but being without you is hard to do.
A man with pride in every step he made.
A man with vigor in every phrase.

The tears I’ve shed cannot surpass the smiles and the laughs we had with you.
To feel your pain I could not do, to feel your joy I cannot explain, but being without is hard to do.
A man with pride in every step he made.
A man with vigor in every phrase.

A man that defined the word grand as only a real man can.
To know you’re in a better place soothes my pain.
Knowing you’re watching over me makes me sane.
A man with pride in every step he made.
A man with vigor in every phrase.

A true story of a real man, who in the end held his family together as only a real man can.
My grandfather, a man with poise.
You were a husband, father, uncle, cousin, grandfather, friend, and the epitome of a real man.
