harriet-pic-web.jpgHarriet Erickson, of Mora, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Kanabec County Hospital. She was 96 years old.

A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the Quamba Baptist Church with Rev. Ivan Fiske presiding. VISITATION will be from 5-7pm on Wednesday, June 3rd at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora and 1 hour prior to the service at church. INTERMENT will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.

Harriet A. Erickson, of Mora, Minnesota, passed away on May 30, 2009 at Kanabec County Hospital in Mora. She was 96 years old.

Harriet was born December 30, 1912 in Lincoln County, Lake Benton, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm in Thief River Falls, Minnesota; one of five siblings, children of Soren and Mertle (Phillips) Sorenson. She attended country school thru the 8th grade. Her family moved to a farm near Quamba, Minnesota in 1929. She moved to Minneapolis and worked as a housekeeper for a family for $3.00 a week. In 1930 she moved back to Quamba where she met Herman at a baseball game in Mora. In 1933 they were married at the Erickson home near Quamba. They moved to Marshall, Minnesota where Stan was born in 1935. In 1936 they returned to Quamba where they farmed. In 1939 Joyce was born in the house on the farm. In 1945 Jeanne was born in the Braham hospital.

She was an active member of the Quamba Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, GMG leader for 10 years, church secretary for 10 years and secretary for the Ladies Aid Society. She also served as a church greeter for the past several years.

In addition to working on the farm, she was employed at Fingerhut for about a year. She worked at the Kanabec Hospital as a Nurses Aid for 15 years until she retired at the age of 70.

She put God first and loved her family and church family and getting together for picnics and holiday celebrations. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Herman; three brothers and three sisters; her son Stanley; and two infant grandchildren. She is survived by daughter-in-law Joyce Erickson; daughters Joyce (Gary) Meyer, and Jeanne (Phillip) Halvorson; grandchildren Vickie (Dennis) Tjaden, Connie (Mike) Creamer, Sherrill (Bob) Kemper, Brenda (Paul) Proskey, Keith Halvorson, Linda (Duane) Hearrell and Laura Sybrant; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 4th at 1:00 P.M. at Quamba Baptist Church in Quamba. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora, plus one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Rev. Ivan Fiske will officiate. Music will be provided by Gary Meyer, Connie Creamer and the Erickson family mixed quartet. Pallbearers will be Keith Halvorson, Vickie and Dennis Tjaden, Connie and Mike Creamer, Sherrill and Robert Kemper, Linda Hearrell and Laura Sybrant. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.

    Through the years I’ve had very fond memories of working with Harriet at Kanabec Hospital. Working there was an important part of her life.
