v-selg-web-photo.jpgVelma Selg (nee Besser) of Mora, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Villa Health Care Center of Mora. She was 77 years old.

A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ogilvie with Rev. Russell Stinson presiding. VISITATION will be from 6-8 pm on Monday, May 11th at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora. INTERMENT will be in the Graceland Cemetery of Ogilvie.

Velma Jean Besser Selg died on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora. She was 77 years, 11 months old.

She was born on June 9, 1931, in Braham to Edward and Cella (White) Besser. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogilvie. On June 2, 1946, she confessed her baptismal faith in the rite of Confirmation, also at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she remained a member her entire life.

Immediately following her graduation from Ogilvie High School she began her career, working as an abstractor in the office of the Kanabec County Register of Deeds (now County Recorder). Later, upon the retirement of then Register of Deeds, Chester Folsom, she was appointed to the position. She held the position of Kanabec County Recorder for many years and also owned and operated Kanabec County Abstract Company. She thoroughly enjoyed her life’s vocation.

In her leisure time she loved socializing and traveling with friends, and they regularly took many trips together. Her family was equally important to her, and family activities were always special. On September 1997, she was united in marriage to Arnold Selg. She enjoyed spending time at their lake home on Mille Lacs Lake in the summer and at their place in Mission, Texas, during the winter months.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Morris Besser; sister, Vera Besser; and husband, Arnie.

She is survived by her nieces, Karen (Jim) Kirschner Danielson and Lynne Besser; nephews, Brent (Pattie) Besser and Brian Besser; great nieces and nephews; cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 12th at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ogilvie. Rev. Russell Stinson officiated. Organist was Arty Heins. Pallbearers were Nathan Kirschner, Jordan Kirschner, Brandon Besser, Blaine Besser, Katie Koenings, Brooke Besser and Benji Besser. Honorary pallbearers were Dorothy Bolen, Martha Schultz, Rhonda Olson, Sue Nielsen and Darlene Lehrke. Interment was at Graceland Cemetery in Ogilvie.

  1. Our sincere sympathy. Velma’s birthday was
    June 9 so makes me think of my mother, Vi Nastrom, whose birthday also was on June 9. I have many fond memories of Velma, a special lady.
