Elmer George Lakeberg, of Stanchfield, Minnesota, passed away on May 8, 2009, at Gracepointe Crossing West Gables in Cambridge. He was 87 years old.
Elmer was born August 24, 1921 at home in Springvale Township, Isanti County, Minnesota to John and Daisy (Anderson) Lakeberg. He grew up on the farm with one younger brother, Willmer, and attended the Lakeberg School through the 8th grade.
Elmer farmed all his life, staying at home and caring for his parents until their death.
Elmer was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it, without any payment for himself. He felt people should not be just for themselves, but help others. He often quoted his father, John, about people re-paying a debt to him – “We will go out and write the debt in the snow and when the snow is melted, the debt will be gone.” – even in the summer. Elmer’s greatest legacy will be his generosity of spirit, his love for cattle, and his “always full” coffee pot. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Daisy Lakeberg.
Elmer is survived by one brother Willmer (Lorraine) Lakeberg of Stanchfield; two nephews Michael (Susan) Lakeberg of Rush City, Robert Lakeberg of Stanchfield; three nieces Louise (Loren) Nelson of Cambridge, Mary Lou Lakeberg of Cambridge, Betty (Michael) Lucas of North Branch; one great-niece Stacie (James) Colling of Grand Junction Colorado; five great-nephews Timothy Nelson of St. Paul, Joseph Lakeberg of Rush City, Travis Lakeberg of Isanti, Daniel (Kelsey) Lakeberg of Stanchfield, Tyler Lakeberg of St. Cloud; and many other relatives, neighbors, and friends.
A Memorial Service was held on Monday, May 11, 2009 at the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home of Braham with Rev. Rich Chronis presiding. Music was provided by Ruth Grundyson and Jon Scheele. Honorary Urn Bearers were Stacie Colling, Timothy Nelson, Joseph Lakeberg, Travis Lakeberg, Daniel Lakeberg, and Tyler Lakeberg. Interment was at the Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Dalbo, MN.
