Robert F. Eckardt was born on October 29, 1923 in Warroad, Minnesota to Charles and Clara (Marks) Eckardt. He moved to Ogilvie, Minnesota in 1936 where he attended a rural school near Ann Lake. In 1943 he was called into the Army and served in the Philippines and then was a railway clerk in a Japanese depot. After his honorable discharge from the military he worked in the South Saint Paul Stockyards. He then found his most prized job as a fireman for the Milwaukee Railroad. A few years later he found out he was being replaced by a diesel engine. After that job he purchased a truck route near Ogilvie and also helped on the family farm. About that time he met Erma Johnson. Erma and her family became part of his life. Bonnie Vogel and daughter Jan were also good friends. Warren Heikes and son Greg worked together with Bob and were good friends to the end. Thanks!
