Ronald Matt Mattson, of Braham, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He was 78 years old.
Ronald was born on February 23, 1931 to parents Matt and Amy (Falk) Mattson in Grass Lake Township, Kanabec County. Ron and his twin brother Roger were born on the family farm, and attended the Seward Country School.
Ronald served his country in the United States Army from 1952 until his discharge in 1954. He was deployed to both Japan and Korea. He returned home to the Grass Lake area where he began farming and milking cows.
On September 26, 1959 Ronald was united in marriage to Audrey Swanson at the Hope Lutheran Church in Grasston. Together they lived on the family farm and raised their two children. For many years Ron worked as a Millwright and Machinist. He worked for various companies throughout Minnesota; including General Mills and finally retiring from Dahlman’s in 1993.
Ron was a true Outdoorsman. He loved being outdoors with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved his week fishing trip to Canada, and hunting in the “Taj Mahal Deer Stand” with his son and nephew John. Ron also loved camping; first when his children were young, and more recently with his grandchildren.
Ron enjoyed making wooden knickknacks to give to friends and family, and watching the Minnesota Twins play ball. He also greatly enjoyed playing games and cards, especially solitaire and Yahtzee.
Ron was a charter member of the Braham Moose Lodge, and active since 1975. Ron will be deeply missed by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchild.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents Matt and Amy (Falk) Mattson, sister Verna Schwartz, brothers Glenn, Edward, Erland, Charles, Dean, Roger, Roy, and Leslie Mattson.
He is survived by his wife Audrey; son Kevin (Teresa) Mattson of Cedar; daughter Karen (Jeff) Fiedler of Gillman, WI; grandchildren Shannon (Nikki) Fiedler, Brent (Tara) Fiedler, Suzanne Fiedler, Emily Mattson, and Molly Mattson; great grandson Hunter Fiedler; sister Jane (Gerald) Backlund of Minneapolis; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
