Lela R. Carlson, of Cambridge, formerly of Stanchfield, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the GracePointe Crossing West Gables. She was 97 years old.
A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Stanchfield Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Cope presiding. VISITATION will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. INTERMENT will be in the Stanchfield Baptist Cemetery.
Lela Roselia Carlson, of Cambridge, formerly of Stanchfield, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at GracePointe Crossing West Gables in Cambridge. She was 97 years old.
Lela was born on November 2, 1911 to parents Charles and Ida (Gustafson) Hegstrom in Stanchfield Township. She was the youngest and only daughter of seven children. As a child, Lela attended the Elm Park School and later the Cambridge schools.
On May 24, 1930 Lela was united in marriage to Hilding S. Carlson at the Stanchfield Baptist Parsonage. Together they moved to Hilding’s Family Farm where they lived for 2 years before purchasing their own farm in rural Stanchfield. After Hilding’s passing in 1987, Lela stayed on the farm until 1993 when she moved to an apartment in Cambridge and finally to the GracePointe Crossing Care Center in 2007.
Lela had many hobbies including reading, knitting, crocheting, cooking, and baking fresh bread and cookies. Lela has been a member of the Stanchfield Baptist church for more than 60 years. She was active in the Women’s Groups, and led a prayer chain for many years. She will be deeply missed.
Lela is survived by her three sons Lowell “Bud” (Darlene) Carlson of Stanchfield, Wesley Carlson (Betty Sikkink) of Hinckley, and Glenn Carlson of Rathdrum, Idaho; Eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Ida (Gustafson) Hegstrom; husband Hilding Carlson, daughter and son-in-law Lois and Rolland Bonnema; infant son, Clifford; and brothers Walter, Raymond, Milton, Russell, Chester, and Anzel.
A Funeral Service was held on Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Stanchfield Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Cope presiding. Music was proved by Lawrence Olson and Janette Benzen. Casketbearers were Jim Hegstrom, Jeff Hegstrom, Claire Peterson, Duane Swanson, Donavan Larson and Don Tix.
Interment was in the Stanchfield Baptist Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home of Braham.
