Doug State Sr., of Cambridge, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at his home in Cambridge. He was 83 years old.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00am on Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Stanchfield Baptist Church with Pastor Donald Salmonson presiding. INTERMENT will be in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Douglas Ronald State Sr., of Cambridge, passed away on Thursday, March 05, 2009 at his home in Cambridge. He was 83 years old.
Doug was born on December 15, 1925 in Saint Paul, Minnesota to parents Carl and Francis State. He was one of seven children who grew up and attended Highwood and Monroe schools in St. Paul, Minnesota. Doug enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served his county for the next three years during WWII. After his discharge from the Navy, Doug began working for his father as a mechanic. He eventually became the owner of State Auto and Solid Rock Auto. On June 3, 1972, Doug was united in marriage to Carol Jean Danner in South Dakota and together they made their home in Cambridge.
Doug had a true passion for cars, he loved everything about them. His family and friends never knew what kind of car he would be driving from day to day. Doug was a jokester, and always had a funny joke or story to tell. Doug’s hobbies included taking care of his animals, taking pictures, watching sports, and having lunch with his friends. Doug was a member of the Bible Keys ministry. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Francis State, and sisters Joan and Jean.
Doug is survived by his wife Carol Jean, daughters Julie Ann (Bryan) Zeuli, Sherry (Brian) Vennes; sons Jeffery Adelman, Steven (Denise) Adelman, Greg (Rebecca) Adelman, Dale (Nancy) State, and Doug Jr State; brothers Jack (Jean) and Calvin (Pam); sisters Beverly (John) and Sandy (Darrl); 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
A Memorial Service was held Monday, March 9, 2009 at Stanchfield Baptist Church with Pastor Donald Salomonson presiding. Music was provided by Janette Benzen. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
